Rumor: Star Wars: Episode VII may feature original trilogy flashbacks

07.01.2014

Consider this a rumor and nothing more, but apparently Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd has been cast in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and sources claim it is to play Princess Leia in flashbacks to the original trilogy. While there is no substantiation to this news, The Daily Mail seems to be building on rumors that have been circling online for weeks now.

Lourd, as you can see in the image above, bears more than a striking resemblance to Carrie Fisher. It is not too far-fetched to think that J.J. Abrams would make such a decision to showcase flashbacks that would enhance the events of what occurred between RETURN OF THE JEDI and the upcoming STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. But, the rumors also indicate that Lourd would sport Leia's famous hairbuns, which would mean the flashbacks are set during the events of A NEW HOPE, a weird period to flashback to. This does open the possibility of casting scenes and showcasing other perspectives or angles from the original films to further the story of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but who knows at this point.

I would expect more to be revealed about STAR WARS: EPISODE VII at this month's San Diego Comic Con, but for now it does open another entire possible world of flashbacks I had not even considered before. Here's hoping there is some solid news soon that we don't have to put a disclaimer on.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens December 18, 2015.

I'm not against it. A lot of time passed between VI and VII, so this would be the first movie where having a flashback actually made sense. But it depends on how it's executed. I'll reserve judgement until I see it, but I'm not concerned about it at this point.

I've been waiting for the right time to tell everyone this...

...I'm going to be in Episode VII. As Harrison Ford's body double.

I will gladly accept your adulation.

So all this might end up being pretty cool, but I think I would have liked totally new characters. I don't want J.J. being possibly hampered by what happened in the original trilogy. Is that too much to ask!? J.J., please!

Um, I just saw an article saying Kevin Smith was on the set of SW7 today. He didn't say anything of substance, but apparently posted a photo of him crying. Isn't that news?

Keven Smith banking on his long-gone geek relevance and talking out his ass about things his buddies show him is hardly news.

The Daily Mail has also accurately predicted every Doctor Who since Tom Baker left. I especially enjoyed Johnny Depp and his rapping TARDIS with its big onscreen lips.

Let a star wars film feel like a star wars film. Flashbacks don't exist in these films

So the new sequel will have... prequels in it? That bodes well for this clusterfuck sounding clusterfuck.

Oh, wait. The Daily Mail. When will Americans learn not to read that waste of trees? It's not broadening your horizons, you know. No, the News of the World didn't, either.
