Rumor: The first Star Wars spin-off to focus on both Han Solo AND Boba Fett

01.23.2015

While we await any sort of concrete news about Gareth Edwards STAR WARS SPIN-OFF, we continue to alternate between rumors that claim the film is about either Han Solo or Boba Fett and other bounty hunters. Well, what if both rumors were right?

First off, news has come from Making Star Wars who claim the STAR WARS SPIN-OFF will shoot in Mexico while also reusing some sets built for THE FORCE AWAKENS. Shooting in Mexico could be a stand-in for any number of existing worlds from STAR WARS or an entirely new setting. But, with cost-cutting measures in place it sounds like the film will use a lot more practical shooting locations than even EPISODE VII did. They also claim the bounty hunters will be critical to the plot.

Latino Review claims their sources as having both Han Solo and Boba Fett as characters in the STAR WARS SPIN-OFF. How exactly that works is unknown, but with Fett meeting his fate in RETURN OF THE JEDI and the Extended Universe no longer canon, this would have to be a prequel. Whether Fett and Solo will share screen time is unknown, but that would definitely be cool.

While I cannot take either of these as more than rumor, a lot of the information we have learned from sources has turned out to be true for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - THE FORCE AWAKENS, so cross your fingers that we may finally be getting a clear idea of what this film is going to be.

The STAR WARS SPIN-OFF is slated to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

We'll find out that young Han Solo was a clone of legendary smuggler Jan Solo, which leads young Han and young Boba to form a close bond. They're like Butch and Sundance before young(ish) Chewie comes along and ruins everything because Boba has a serious wookiee-fur allergy.

I don't think it's worth doing a Han Solo movie without Harrison Ford. If this takes place before the original trilogy, they would have to recast him or digitally de-age him, which I think are both terrible ideas. I suppose it possible the de-aging technology might've improved since they tried it with Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy, but I doubt it.

That said, it's possible that Boba Fett didn't die in ROTJ. It takes a sarlacc a thousand years to digest someone, and Boba Fett has all that

That said, it's possible that Boba Fett didn't die in ROTJ. It takes a sarlacc a thousand years to digest someone, and Boba Fett has all that armor, weaponry and a jet pack that he can use to get out of there. Maybe this takes place between VI and VII. Then Harrison Ford can play the role without having to de-age him, and the story can be about Han and Boba Fett facing each other after all these years.

I'd prefer an Old Republic spin-off though.

No interest in a non-Harrison Ford Han Solo.

I'd rather that spin off films be of some minor character that we know little or nothing about, or about something new entirely.

Hows about making the only spin off film that people want to see........DARTH VADER WIPING OUT ALL TRACES OF THE REMAINING JEDI!!! Seriously this is the only spinoff film that would be interesting to me. Get a director like David Fincher or Darren Aronofsky and go dark as hell with it. Maybe he comes across his former padawan Asoka?? or another jedi he knew well during the clone wars.

Well you can't do Han Solo during the OT without doing an awkward digital double, and you can't do him after the OT without actually hiring Harrison Ford (and doing more digital de-aging), so if the plan is to the cast someone new, the film has to take place between episode 3 and 4. And I don't really know what the value of doing a story then would be...

I'd love to see a graph of how many Latino Review rumors have panned out over the years. My guess is it's below 50% - actually WORSE than flipping a coin.

I'm also not a fan of these spin-off ideas. However, if this has to happen it seems only logical that Han Solo and Boba Fett would be in the same movie. It reminds me a lot of the talks after X-Men the last stand, when they were considering an X-Men prequel and Magneto Origins film, but they eventually became one film (First Class).
If anything, Guardians of the Galaxy should have given Disney confidence that fun sci-fi adventures can be successful without well-known characters, instead of

I am not a fan of these Spin Offs. They try to construct a live-story about our favorite characters. This is dangerous, because it could weaken them, destroy them or spoil our imagination. Of course there is also a chance that it improves the characters. But the best things about Han Solo are the things we do not know about him.
We can imagine his adventures and his live. Just creating spin offs like this might take away that imaginary romatic vision of the scoundrel with a big heart. And in

I would prefer movies about new characters, but then again it seems like that this is the Zeitgeist of our time: Recycling ideas that were already successful before. The SW-Universe has much more to offer.

You certainly have a valid point about not killing the mystery of the characters. At the same time they have been allowed to keep their mystery all these long years, at least the film versions of them. I would love to see what kind of crazy jobs Han and Chewie were doing before they met the Jedis and the droids you were looking for. Disney is of course making these films cause they love them and they don't even care if they make money on them. But seriously, they have picked some pretty

So of course there has been tons of fan speculation that Han Solo will be killed in The Force Awakens, and it's certainly a reasonable guess (though never really care to find out how my childhood fictional heroes meet their demise - looking at you, Captain Kirk). But I would think that they wouldn't follow up his death in this movie with an immediate movie featuring a younger Han. I just think that would be kind of weird. So if this winds up being true, I would think that would mean Solo

Maybe Han will make it to Ep. VIII and meet his demise there to mirror what Ford and Kasdan originally wanted, his death at the end of Empire.

Possible it can be both a sequel and a prequel a la Godfather 2. I know EU isn't cannon but they can resurrect in any way they want a la comic book style.

Boba Fett's popularity has always perplexed me. Han Solo's appeal is obvious and I'm one of his fans. Ford was mid-30's at the time he filmed A New Hope, so a prequel would require someone in their mid-20's to early 30's. Zac Efron seems like a decent choice, relative to what's available. Oy...that doesn't sound like a great choice to me, but I that's the best I can come up with.

You know, I'm surprised by the lack of outrage by some fans--I'm not particularly upset or anything, but I'd imagine some people wouldn't want to see anyone but Ford be Han Solo, you know? I'd prefer if they didn't do a young Han Solo, but I'll still watch the shit out of it.

Fetts popularity comes from his intrigue I think - fans of the original obviously never got to see his face until we saw the shitty prequels and then if you look at his costume back then he did rock a pretty cool look and of course his ship was bad ass. To be honest Efron isn't actually a bad choice, but I would struggle to entertain a movie about Han Solo where the majority of the film is carried off by someone who isn't Ford. Personally I wouldn't mind a spin off movie looking at the Sith

If you wanna check out a cool piece of boba fett artwork I've just bought (being a huge fett fan) - check out Craig Davison Boba Fett on Google images.
