Rumor: The Night Manager director being eyed to helm next James Bond film

Bond 25 Susanne Bier Banner

It remains to be seen if Daniel Craig is actually finished playing James Bond, however we do know that Sam Mendes, who was behind the camera for SKYFALL and SPECTRE, definitely won't be back to direct the 25th installment of the franchise, and now Radio Times is claiming they've heard that The Night Manager director Susanne Bier is one of the leading to contenders to helm the next Bond movie.

Sources tell RT that Bier "is among a 'handful' of names making up producer Barbara Broccoli’s shortlist to inherit the directing gig from Mendes," and if she lands the gig it would make her the first woman ever to direct a Bond flick.

Tom Hiddleston might be in talks to replace Craig as 007, and - surprise, surprise - Bier recently directed Hiddleston in the critically acclaimed BBC/AMC miniseries, so it's possible that the magazine is just reaching here. But even so, what are your thoughts on Bier reportedly being eyed to direct the next Bond film?

I would be very comfortable with Hiddleston as the next Bond with Hugh Laurie being the main villain.

Bier is a fantastic choice in my book

The Night Manager was pretty solid, but I think suffered from being stretched a little too thin. However, if you she can handle the length of a miniseris then eking out the same sort of intrigue and tension from two hour film should be a slam dunk for her. I know that there's a big push (and rightfully so) to get female directors more high profile gigs in Hollywood and this seems like it would be one that actually feels like a natural fit rather than the more gimicky attempts that we see so

She'd be a capable, affordable choice and if they really want Hiddleston for the role then i'm sure she could be a big help in nabbing him. Hiddleston could make a pretty solid Bond (maybe my sixth choice?) but I'd be even more excited to see Hugh Laurie show up in a supporting role.

specialy AFTER THE WEDDING with Mads Mikelsen !
she's good, but I agree with Richterjet, Nolan , Spielberg would be a dreamm come true for both fans and those directors...

Serena was pretty bad, but after watching The Night Manager I really want to check out some of her other work, especially After the Wedding and Brothers (since the American remake was actually pretty good).

yes, Serena is pretty disappointting... but it's not a danish movie... but she did a greyat work with THINGS WE LOST IN FIRE with del toro and halle berry...
Brothers is good (I liked the remake as well...)
I have no opinion about the night manager cause I do not watch tv shows...

The Night Manager is actually a good series. But if she really is going to be the director, chances are Tom Hiddleston might be the new James Bond.

Would love to see Christopher Nolan and Bale reteam on this. Or, see Spielberg finally get to try his hand out on a Bond film as he has always wanted to. That being said, I think an interesting take would be someone like Villenueve to tackle the material...
