Rumor: How The Hulk will pop up next in Marvel Cinematic Universe

01.25.2016

Everyone wants to know where the Hulk will show his angry green face next as it pertains to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When we last saw him, he had cut off all communications while sitting alone in a Quinjet, determined to no longer endanger those he loved (in this case, it was Scarlet Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow). So where might he be headed? What would be his next move? The speculation had begun.

Well, the rumor mill is churning up a fresh batch of prospects on the Hulk's whereabouts and Geek.com believes they've pinpointed where we will see the Hulk pop up next in the MCU.

So, if you don't want to know right now, maybe you slowly back away from this story and go read something else on the site in order to keep yourself fresh, as this is obviously going to enter into SPOILER TERRITORY for Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Enjoy the next article, and we'll meet up again soon.

Okay, are they gone?

For real? I just want to make sure all the stragglers have had a chance to second guess themselves and get out while they still can.

Alright... Let's get into the details.

Everything looks to be coming together as a part of THOR: RAGNAROK. The word is that Cate Blanchett would be serving as one of the film's main villains, playing the role of Hela, and teaming up with Tom Hiddleston's Loki to fully take over Asgard. Thor would then be exiled into deep space, in order to prevent his interference to this evil plot. Far out there, he would land on an alien planet where he would be imprisoned and forced into gladitorial combat for the natives' entertainment.

Is this sounding familiar at all?

Thor needs to battle his way off the planet in order to get back to Asgard to stop Hela and his brother and is able to make his way through all of the competition... until he reaches the reigning champion. And I imagine you've been able to put together who that's going to be.

Yep... the Hulk.

The Planet Hulk rumors have been floating around for quite some time, with Marvel always denying that any of it was in the cards for the future of the Hulk. That looks to have been the case all along, with only recently Marvel shifting gears and deciding to put the Hulk out in space (that is, if this rumors does indeed pan out).

That does not mean we're going to be getting a full-blown Planet Hulk film or that we're going to get a very detailed explanation as to how the Hulk wound up out here (maybe Marvel will fill in the blanks along the way, maybe they won't)... but THOR: RAGNAROK is going to be a big step in making some semblance of that popular story arc happen and it'll serve as a re-entry for the Hulk back into the MCU after some time away from the big screen.

Remember though... most Marvel films are fully constructed story-wise in post-production, so this is something that may be in the plans but doesn't quite shake out for the final film. We'll have to wait awhile to find out that fate of this particular idea, but as of now, it appears to at least be on the MCU radar as a possibility.

THOR: RAGNAROK is set for release on November 3, 2017.

Wouldn't it be, ya know, entirely stupid if the Hulk shows up as a gladiatorial champion in deep space and they just never bother telling you how or why?

actually it could be kinda cool, not knowing information that the characters themselves don't know. though they would probably give some explanation or at least hint. and if they don't, that's cool. the story not told sometimes makes for a better......story?

I think an explanation would be necessary. Like it would be a cool surprise if Thor is battling through however many fighters in the pit, and then they pull back the cage on the "champion" and it's revealed to be Hulk. Makes for a great scene in the movie. However, after the fight, I'd assume Hulk and Thor would then team up to go save Asgard (remember it's being rumored as a riff on buddy action movies). In between getting off the planet and going back to Asgard, banner could easily

The whole desire to see a Planet Hulk film is mostly driven by people who don't grasp that the cinematic universe is never going to be anything like the comics universe. If we do get this sort of scenario where gladiator Hulk is shoehorned into a Thor movie, you basically have none of the context that made Planet Hulk interesting, nor any of the betrayal Hulk felt that led into World War Hulk. They might still hammer out a decent film from the basic premise, but we're no more getting an

Heroes fighting heroes stuff again but a year after the whole civil war thing? Hmm I hope things are going to be different by then.

The only issue with this is the lack of Ruffalo for me. I want more Ruffalo. If it is going to be Banner captured by Loki after being ejected by Tony when Tony's all "I'm here making the world safer, by any means", then I can see that storyline play out. But I'm hoping we get a Thor movie we can remember. I still don't remember Thor 2's baddie say anything

but Hulk belongs on Asgard or some GotG alien planet. we just wanna see him smash and wreck bad guys. and they gotta be aliens or robots, because it would be disturbing to see him unleash on regular humans, and you won't cheer for that.

i see it now

when Thor first arrives at the fighting pits, he's given a tour by some goofy unintimidating alien played by a Kevin Hart type. then alien-Kevin Hart points to a shadowy cell and is like "that's the champ's cell, don't fuck with him". and Thor is like "ha! i'm Thor, i do whatever i want" and calls him out. then Hulk walks out of the shadows and stares Thor down. then alien-Kevin Hart is all scared and shits his pants in fear. then Thor and Hulk smile and give each other a hug and alien-Kevin

So let me get this right... MCU plans to take a major (and very popular) Hulk event and shoehorn it into a half hour segment (if that) of a Thor film? Really? It's more likely they'll do what Des1 suggests and have Loki bring the Hulk to Asgard as was done in the Hulk Vs Thor animated movie (which was a great piece of entertainment by the way), especially considering Loki has first hand knowledge of the kind of beat down Hulk can deliver.

I guess this is as close we will ever get to a Planet Hulk movie.

This would be pretty cool if it turned out to be true and would make sense story wise (that's if they explain how Banner gets there in the first place). But it's kind of disappointing that they're shoehorning the Hulk into a Thor film. It's sort of like they're putting him into the film because the Hulk is a fan favorite and they want to generate more buzz for a third Thor film.

But after their fight in the Avengers, I would love to see them dual it out again; space or earth.

Marvel won't make a solo-Hulk movie due to shared rights with Universal. so they're making a Hulk movie, but labeling it a Thor movie. it's just not for buzz, it's a strategic loophole move. i respect that. also saying something makes sense with the condition that it gets explained isn't saying anything at all.

I think it will be Loki.....

Numerous animated films have Loki trying to use the Hulk as a way to take over, so maybe he brings Banner from Earth to Asgard in an attempt to make him into the mindless guard dog.....and it backfires.

All this depends on if Loki is the actual bad guy, or if they go all in and introduce Surtur.

That's sort of silly that Thor is uninteresting enough (obviously in my opinion) to hijack Planet Hulk, but Hulk isn't considered a good fit for a solo film.

Yes. I'm certain that The Hulk will simply be on a far-off alien world with no explanation given whatsoever. Definitely sounds like the kind of thing Marvel would do. Yep. I'm being totally sincere right now. You better believe it. Not a sarcasm to be found in this comment, no sir.
