Rumor: Will Chris Pratt join Channing Tatum in the Ghostbusters reboot?

03.10.2015

If you lose weight and get super ripped, you too can enjoy sudden blockbuster success! Also it helps to be funny; and handsome, don’t you dare forget handsome!

Yesterday we got the surprising news that Joe and Anthony Russo were at the head of yet another GHOSTBUSTERS reboot with Channing Tatum producing and possibly starring. The Paul Feig reboot with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones is still happening obviously, but this new reboot was said to be “male-centric” as opposed to Feig’s “female-centric” version. Why do we have dueling GHOSTBUSTERS films? What the heck is going on here?

Badass Digest dug a little deeper into the story and discovered several surprising things; first off, this new reboot isn’t “male-centric” it will merely have these two guys at the center of it. Which two guys you say, well apparently the whole project was designed to team up real-life friends Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt. Did you know they were buddies? Why didn’t anyone tell me?

As we mentioned yesterday this movie will apparently stand alongside the Paul Feig film in the same universe. That’s right; another franchise, another shared universe. A third film would then join both casts together ala THE AVENGERS. A fourth film, said to be a prequel, is also in the works.

Here's what producer Ivan Reitman had to say about the franchise yesterday:

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman told me. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following hear. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

Now…that’s a lot of GHOSTBUSTERS, and I know the “cool” thing to do these days is to plan out your universe for the next twenty years but could we not just wait and see how Feig’s reboot turns out? Announcing another reboot (especially when the “male-centric” bit was mistakenly played up) before the first has even begun shooting really feels like a slap in the face to the so called “female-centric” film. The strange backlash towards the new GHOSTBUSTERS being female-driven has always puzzled me, so long as it ends up being a good film I could care less about what gender the heroes are.

Obviously these films will be distinct from each other and not just two versions of people strapping on proton packs and blasting ghosts, at least I hope they wont. I could see Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS being more of a traditional reboot with the four women coming together and forming a Ghostbusters team, similar to the original film. The Russo's film might step away from the world of ghosts and deal with some other supernatural threat before both films collide and we get our grand team-up. Or both films could fail and that's the last we'll hear of Ghostbusters for a while.

Are you ready for Chris Pratt to join another blockbuster? What do you make of this potential Ghostbusters shared universe?

The Russo Brothers are A+ directors (so far), so i'll see anytihng that they do, even if it's a Ghostbusters reboot. I also like Tatum and Pratt, so I have no complaints about this project.

Ghostbuster Universe

So after milking Spider-Man, Sony's milking Ghostbusters? I'm all for a GBU (a la MCU), as long as every story is fresh and entertaining.

How about Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and James Franco? It would be the laziest casting ever but, hey, Sony has the right to work with people they know and love. In fact, they can bring back anybody from This is the End: the movie got an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and it grossed $101,470,202 in the U.S. so we know that Sony has the franchise they need right there, except they can't make a sequel to a movie called "This is the End" so they need to take the same actors and have them

The irony is that the female lead Ghostbuster idea is so bad that a Channing Tatum / Jonah Hill / Seth Rogen / James Franco Ghostbuster movie actually sounds refreshing by comparison. Hopefully they can get started on this as soon as possible because if the female lead Ghostbusters movie comes out and tanks then Sony would be back to square one.

Now we need to think of a catchy title. Ghostbusters on Patrol? What about the female Ghostbusters movie? Is that just going to be Ghostbusters 2016? It's funny that Dan Aykroyd was saying that this Ghostbusters movie was just a one off and that he wanted a "real Ghostbusters 3" to follow. It's almost like Paul Feig is just making a 2 hour trailer for another movie.

Hehe! You underestimate Hollywood coming up with a sequel to This is the End.

They'll simply call it This was the End. Besides, how do explain a movie called Final Destination and justify 5 sequels?

Disney needs to buy Sony Pictures already, and put them out of their misery.

Sony Pictures is in good shape. They have the James Bond franchise and the next Spider-Man movie will probably do better than the last one (which made over $700 000 gross worldwide). Their Men In Black and 21 Jump Street Franchises are done though and they need to reign in Seth Rogen and James Franco because they can't make money from R rated comedies, especially if they only end up running on Netflix. As much as we laugh at Dan Aykroyd, his ideas for a Ghostbuster franchise are exactly what

Disney, the same infallible company who made Pirates of the Caribbean 2-4, John Carter, Iron Man 2, Home on the Range, The Country Bears, Thor: The Dark World, Atlantis, Alice in Wonderland, The Haunted Mansion, Treasure Planet, Prince of Persia, The Sorceror's Apprentice, and Around the World in 80 days? Yeah, let's give an entire studio (Columbia Pictures) over to those guys. I'm sure your logic is "Disney made the Avengers, so they should make everything now!". Which is an awesome way of

Which is an awesome way of seeing things if you're 6 years old and know nothing about the studio structure. Trust me, the fewer studios that we have, the worse it's going to be for everyone of us moviegoers. You fanboys are going to ruin the industry, so please stop lobbying for Disney so hard.

Chris Pratt is fun but too much will do him more harm. Marvel, GB, Indy, JP, he's gotta slow down on the Franchise train.

I'm guess the other two cast members will be:

Jonah Hill/Kevin James and Jay Baruchel/Christopher Mintz-Plaase

The problem with the new Ghostbusters movie being "Female centric" was that it reeked of GIMMICK... and if this new movie is "male centric" than that too reeks of GIMMICK. However, these movies hinged on the casting: The female centric casting hired what i believe to be the very worst possible people. Leslie Jones is the single worst cast member in SNL history. All she does is yell and forget her lines. Kate McKinnen just plays weird kooky characters that have weird kooky characteristics. .that

Having said that... if the casting for this franchise holds true... i could be on board. But then i wonder how that will affect the proposed Men in Black/ 21 Jump Street crossover... will Tatum want to headline 2 franchises that deal with the supernatural?

Oh, I hope they do! In fact, throw Chris Evans in the mix and it'd be like Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis back in the day.

I think Ghostbusters needs Pratt more then Pratt needs Ghostbusters at this point. I'm sure he would be great in the role (like he has been with his previous various roles), but it's not like he needs another franchise to keep him afloat this point.

Again Sony doesn't know what to do but throw out names that are hot right now. Pratt who seems to be associated with everything now can't save every potential rebooted franchise. His stick will get old soon.

Id honestly rather see him in neither. Two franchises is enough for one lead. Especially if Star Lord shows up in Infinity Wars. It's just too much.
