Runaways next for Marvel

With IRON MAN 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE AVENGERS all on the upcoming schedule for Marvel Studios, where do they turn to now for their next film? RUNAWAYS. Those of you who stopped collecting comics back in the 1990s might not have any idea what I’m talking about. Launched in 2002, the series follows a group of teens who discover their parents are part of a villainous cabal known as The Pride. They band together to help put a stop to their parents and help make up for the evil they have done. Unlike most superheroes, they wear no costumes, have no nicknames and don’t have a “team name.” I think it’s a smart move by Marvel to show they’ve got more up their sleeve than the Golden Age heroes they’ve brought to the screen so far. As WANTED is proving, there’s more to comic adaptations than Stan Lee creations. RUNAWAYS was created by “Y: The Last Man” creator and “Lost” writer Brian K. Vaughan with Joss Whedon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” SERENITY) taking over once Vaughan left. No date is set for RUNAWAYS nor has any talent been announced to write or direct but why not bring Whedon aboard to work his magic?
