Rush Hour 4 is strolling through the early stages of development

I remember loving the holy hell out of RUSH HOUR back when it released in 1998.  This was also when "Jackie Chan Adventures" was one of the many awesome Saturday Morning Cartoons available and so by the time 2000 rolled around Jackie Chan had, in effect, stolen my heart with his awkwardly bumbling badassery.

Now here we are, fourteen years later, and Jackie Chan has announced that his career in terms of straight action movies is over though he'll still be seen in more character driven pieces that have an action element to the story.  Chan has several ongoing franchises that might still fit that bill, one of them of course being the RUSH HOUR series with Chris Tucker.  There have been three installments so far, descending in critical reception as they came, but producer/creator Arthur Sarkissian isn't letting reviews or Chan's new career specificiations slow him down as he searches for a plot.

“I am working on Rush Hour 4 right now... I’m trying to do it closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was. I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It’s not a matter of just bringing them back to do another segment of that or a sequel to it by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don’t want that. I want something new.”

As for what that "something new" might be: "Maybe younger, maybe Chris is now married, maybe Jackie is married to Octavia Spencer, I don’t know. Married to Chris’s cousin, they live in Shanghai, Chris goes out to visit them. I don’t know, I want something energetic.”

Is there a script: “Right now we haven’t decided yet but I’m very close to making a decision. I have about four or five names that we’re roaming on right now.”

Could director Brett Ratner be back: “If he wants to do it he’s more than welcome to do it but he’s got to do it in the right way.”

Any way and either way, "Sarkissian confirmed Tucker and Chan are interested in returning," so you can probably look for more news soon on the RUSH HOUR 4 front.

Noémie Lenoir, star of RUSH HOUR 3 and possibly my French-filled dreams.

Extra Tidbit: Though on a different channel (I think), "Doug" was an equally awesome Saturday Morning Cartoon.

I'd be much more interested in another Rush Hour movie if it starred Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart.

The first 2 Rush Hour's were great but part 3 was a mess & felt a lil forced even after 6 years.

Found the third film to be ok, but mostly forgettable. And I should correct this. Chan has stated that he is done doing Honk Kong action films. He's stated he will still continue to do international films, so he could very well do another Rush Hour, if they use him. If they really want to go with a younger generation for the film, they might consider using Jackie's son, Jaycee.

*facepalm*

The only one I feel sorry for here is Chris Tucker because the guy can't seem to find work outside this franchise. The last movie was painfully unfunny and it was tragic watching him giving it his all to make it work to no avail.

And now this Arthur Sarkissian wants to make it "down to earth", "gritty"..Gritty??? With Chris Tucker??!? I never thought I'd those two words in the same sentence. Regardless of what they make it will never top the first one (which was an OK movie).

I really enjoyed the first two Rush Hour films, the second one especially was really good - Zhang Ziyi's villainous Hu Li and the tension-filled sequence with the grenade taped into Jackie Chan's mouth were the highlights. The third one was alright, but it felt like it was coasting. There were too many cliches and old tricks, and there was a lack of gravity to the proceedings so it didn't feel like the threat was very great, even when it was supposed to. Can't say I'm not down for a fourth one

Imagine how much better it might of been if Chris Rock was actually in "Rush Hour"

You're right, that would have made it that much better. Good catch, thanks.

It's not too late, is it? Can we call up this Sarkissian guy?

Gotta love those giving negative votes because they didn't see that the original copy said Chris Rock instead of Chris Tucker in paragraph two. Oh well, those that did see it got a good laugh.

I would never say any of the Rush Hour movies are "good"

but they sure as shit are fun to watch.
I'm down for some Chris Tucker trying to understand the words that are coming out of people's mouffs.
