Russell Brand to haunt you humorously for a price in The Hauntrepreneur

Jan. 26, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

BrandandWhiteFirst off, here's the recently released plot summary for THE HAUNTREPRENEUR: “The story revolves around a family that has trouble adjusting to a new town hires a peculiar man who calls himself the Hauntrepreneur to help them. In an attempt to bring them together, the man creates a haunted house filled with an odd cast of characters.”

My first thought is to say “quick, get Tim Burton on the phone!” If only because this sounds a lot like a watered down BEETLEJUICE, so to speak. Well, that, and the movie sounds exactly like the kind of quirky-creepy middle ground Burton seems to have settled into of late. As for the casting of Russell Brand, I’m sure he can be manic and intentionally/unintentionally disturbing enough to pull this off without a problem, and I’ll admit to being a bit curious to see what sort of character he creates for this project.

Paramount and Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay’s production house, will back the movie. Thus far it would have been apt to rename Platinum Dunes “Remakepalooza Productions” as their credits have mainly consisted of horror remakes of questionable quality like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. But perhaps THE HAUNTREPRENEUR, another original property after the recently announced VIGILANDIA, marks a change in their philosophy. Wouldn’t that be nice for everybody? A director has yet to be found, while the spec script is by Scott Rosenberg (CON AIR, HIGH FIDELITY).

Extra Tidbit: Right now Im very much getting a "BEETLEJUICE by way of HAUNTED MANSION" vibe from all this. Despite that not being a very good thing, does Brands presence promise something more to you?

I like Russell Brand there's something totally hardcore about him I find appealing.

I am kind of burnt out on Brand. I get sick of certain actors after awhile. Especially when they seem to play the same roles over and over. But I will always watch trailers and give things a chance...

Brand gets a bad rap

The thing about Brand is that he really is a rather intelligent and well-spoken guy (listen to his appearance on "WTF Comedy Podcast" recently, for example). But he also is an egoist and loves attention, and I think the whole Katy Perry thing really brought out the worst in him: in a matter of months he'd abandoned his radio show and started trying to become a Hollywood star...I think he bought into that whole package a bit too quickly, and it affected much of his persona. I hadn't found him to

I hadn't found him to be very amusing recently, and BOOKY WOOK 2 sucked. Now that he's split up from Perry and out of the tabloid fixtures soon, I'm hoping he returns to how he used to be. His stand-up has always sucked, though.

Personally the whole Katy Perry thing is called "self marketing by riding someone Else's coattails"
...That's showbiz for you

Doing comedy is not easy at all. Yet, I gave him several chances and nope.. not once has he made me laugh. I believe there are way better comedians out there who deserve the spotlight (he always seems to act as a douche)

As a Brit I can only apologise for the fact he has been inflicted on you guys over the water. On the plus side though he does spend a lot less time on tv here.

I don't care about Brand's personal life. I think the dude is a stand up guy and is a very good comedic actor. This sounds right up his alley for a good time.

Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were good remakes. A Nightmare on Elm Street sucked. Just a horrible film that could have been alot better.
