Russell Crowe is officially in talks to be Darren Aronofsky's Noah!

Noah comic slice 1

Nearly a month ago we reported that Darren Aronofsky was hoping to convince Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson to join his non-traditional ancient epic/passion project NOAH, and now it appears to be that half of his wish is close to coming true.

Russell Crowe black and white"Previous reports indicated that Aronofsky was eyeing Crowe for the role, while the actor teased his Twitter followers that he was eyeing Aronofsky right back. Now both sides are actively working on a deal that would find Crowe boarding the ark for a July shoot."

This might honestly be the best news I've encountered in a long time.  Crowe can bring the tenderness, sorrow, and rage all on his own, and Aronofsky has never failed to inspire anything less than a quantum leap forward in the quality of performance his lead actors/actresses put forth.

I'm salivating already, and the damn thing hasn't even formally cast its lead actor yet.  It's going to be an awfully long wait until the yet-unannounced release date...

Extra Tidbit: If he takes the part, do you think this could win Crowe another Oscar?

Can't wait. I was just thinking Crowe needs a comeback. And Aronofsky always gets the best out of his actors.

I too would really like to see a Master and Commander sequel. It's one of my favorite movies.

Good news even tho Bale or Fassbender would have awesome as well. I know Crowe can deliever and pitted against Aronofsky this might be one of his best preformances.

First Bale, now Fassbender is gone?

Wait. What happened to Fassbender? Crowe has become a lazy and uninspired actor in recent times - I'm not saying he'll turn in a bad performance as working with Aronofsky will probably inspire him more than Paul Haggis, but c'mon...Bale and Fassbender were both so much better.

Maybe, but I think Javert in Les Miserables might be his next Oscar. Or Hugh Jackman's first.

I'm with you Alejandro. Crowe I can definitely see in this. It helps he's well-established as an actor in epics. As someone who isn't exactly big on religious movies, I am actually excited now for this one. (As an Aronofsky follower, however, I was always going to see it, but now I really want to)

I think they should have just chose gilgamesh instead. Noah isnt exactly the first boat story out there and gilgamesh is far more worthy of an epic hollywood movie as opposed to noah. Besides russell crowe would make for an interesting gilgamesh.

You're right. Nobodies touched Gilgamesh. You'd think the first epic EVER about a dude seeking immortality would be ripe for adaptation, but oh well. They wanna make another crappy Bible story with a fat douche like Crowe, let 'em at it.

Yeash! Leave it to the wing-nuts to not know their history. Gilgamesh predates noah and was quite possibly one of the first epics before the greeks even learned how to write their first true epic. What a pity people dont take time to learn their history.
