Kenneth Branagh's THOR is really starting to shape up now. Filming is already set to start next month, and now Rene Russo has been cast as the superhero's stepmother, Frigga.

The film, penned by Mark Protosevich (I AM LEGEND, POSEIDON) and Zack Stentz ("Fringe", "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"), "has the powerful but arrogant warrior Thor reigniting an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

Frigga, wife of the Norse god Odin (Sir Anthony Hopkins), is the queen of Asgard. She's the stepmother of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and foster mother to the film's primary villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston). She also looks like this, which is a bit of a departure from Rene Russo circa MR. DESTINY (pictured), but I digress. Also starring is Natalie Portman as Thor's love interest. She looks like this.

THOR is currently set to defend Midgardian theaters on May 20, 2011.

she could have been a fine superheroine in her day. mighty fine shape too, and strong presence.

Glad Hollywood hasn't forgotten about her. Well, at least Branagh hasn't...

Yay
Rene Russo always gets a yah in my book. Still not completely sold on this movie though despite its great cast. Hopefully Branagh can pull this off.
