FilmoFilia has news that Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts has joined the cast of ANIMAL RESCUE, which will be directed by Michael P. Roskam. The two have worked together before for the film BULLHEAD and this will be Roskam's first American film. The movie is based of a short story by SHUTTER ISLAND and GONE BABY GONE author Dennis Lehane, who is also adapting the script. Schoenaerts joins previously announced cast members Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.

ANIMAL RESCUE is about:

A man (Hardy) who wants to shed his criminal past, but ‘gets mixed up in a bad heist and a killing resulting from a lost and contested pit bull.

Noomi Rapace will be playing a woman with a scar across her neck that gets mixed up with Hardy's character, while Matthias Schoenaerts' role isn't specified.

I thought BULLHEAD was fantastic and a lot of the credit goes to Matthias Schoenaerts performance. I'm excited to see him teaming up with Michael P. Roskam again and throwing Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace into the mix is just icing on the cake. I've enjoyed previous Dennis Lehane adaptations and this looks like it could be as good as the other films based on the author's work.

ANIMAL RESCUE starts filming next month.

Extra Tidbit: Matthias Schoenaerts was also in the Oscar nominated short film DEATH OF A SHADOW, which is about "a deceased World War I soldier, stuck in limbo between life and death." I haven't seen it but the trailer looks excellent.

Schoenaerts was outstanding in Bullhead. In Bullhead, he showed that he does drama very well. He showed that he does a crime thriller very well. The big guy seems like the perfect for Animal Rescue, and the supporting cast sounds like the perfect cast to be supporting him.

I know a lot of people like Rapace but I personally can't stand her. I once remember reading in Chris Bumbray's review of Sherlock Holmes 2 that it appears as if she's the only one not playing it tongue-in-cheek and he was right on the money, she stood out in a bad way big time. Similar thing is bothering me in the Dead Man Down trailers, she just sticks out because she's trying so hard to act well or something.
Rundskop was barely even mediocre in my opinion, though Schoenaearts is indeed a

Rundskop was barely even mediocre in my opinion, though Schoenaearts is indeed a great actor, which he proved also in Rust & Bone. And Lehane has always got my attention.
