Ryan Gosling has been acting too much and needs a break

We can now add Ryan Gosling to the short list of actors who are taking a break from acting. Recently it was announced that Daniel Day-Lewis was taking a time out, and so was Leonardo DiCaprio. Way to go, DiCaprio. This is your chance to get an Oscar, and you’ve gotta go party with some blonde on a beach somewhere. At least that’s what I imagine him doing, aside from sitting on a bench with sad Keanu sharing a cupcake.

Gosling told E! that he needed to take a step back, and remember why it was that he started all this acting biz to begin with:

I’ve been doing it too much. I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does. The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to f*ck it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint, because I do have so much freedom.

To be fair, Gosling started out as a youngster on THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, as well as a stint on STAR SEARCH. If I were him, I wouldn’t mind a little break myself. Really, when it comes down to it, I don’t mind that any of them take a break. Maybe it will make other actors work a bit harder for some acclaim, and then again, maybe Adam Sandler will just put out stuff he just shits out in his sleep.

Gosling then went to talk about how unattractive face tattoos are since he had to sport a fake one for THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, I said to [director Derek Cianfrance], ‘I got to lose this face tattoo. It’s the worst. It’s so distracting and it’s going to ruin everything. Well, I’m sure that’s how people with face tattoos feel. So now you have to pay the consequences of your actions.”

I would like to send Ryan off into the sunset with this episode of ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?
