Ryan Reynolds gets animated for the DreamWorks toon Turbo

Ryan Reynolds has signed on to voice his second DreamWorks Animation movie, this time playing a snail in the upcoming TURBO.

TURBO follows the very formulaic DreamWorks-style plot of a down-and-out character who suddenly finds himself with abilities unusual to its kind. In this case, it’s a snail who dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world. Strange dream but OK. A freak accident grants him that very ability and he sets out to make his dream come true (all the while making the DreamWorks face).

DreamWorks had a void in the release schedule after they realized their upcoming Seth Rogen-voiced film, BOO U., was pulled from the slate once the studio realized Pixar’s MONSTERS INC. 2 would be titled MONSTER UNIVERSITY and follow a very similar plot (monsters and ghouls go to college to learn how to scare).

David Soren, who directed the “Merry Madagascar” TV special, is directing from a script he wrote with Darren Lemke (SHREK FOREVER AFTER). DreamWorks has scheduled TURBO for June 7, 2013 release, just three months after Reynolds’ other DWA film, the caveman comedy THE CROODS.
