Ryan Reynolds on courting Wolverine, leaked footage & Deadpool's boyfriend

01.03.2017

Ryan Reynolds Deadpool Wolverin Hugh Jackman

Although the trailers for DEADPOOL looked like an awful lot of fun, I was still quite surprised by just how successful it became once it finally hit theaters. With a sequel on the way (but not without a few setbacks) under the direction of David Leitch (JOHN WICK), I'll likely not make that mistake for the second time. Ryan Reynolds recently chatted with Variety about all things DEADPOOL, including how this whole crazy ride kicked off when the DEADPOOL test-footage was mysteriously leaked online by someone involved in the production.

"When the leaked footage got around the internet, it created this enormous groundswell. I credit Twitter users, Facebook users, and Instagram users for getting this movie made.” As to who actually leaked the footage, Reynolds wouldn't say, but said that it was either Tim Miller, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, or himself. "One of us did it. We all sort of said at the beginning, ‘Someone should leak it. Someone should leak it’…but I’m 70 percent sure it wasn’t me."

Although DEADPOOL concluded with Wade Wilson still happily in love with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Reynolds isn't about to rule out a possible boyfriend for Marvel's first pansexual superhero.

What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else. I think that could be played up more. He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.

DEADPOOL co-writer Rhett Reese added that "most comic book heroes have been heterosexual or homosexual. We find that interesting and groundbreaking. I hope it can evolve into something a little more." However, Reynolds also added that he wants to remain faithful to the "canon we nurtured and created," which includes Deadpool's love for Vanessa. "Deadpool isn’t in love with Vanessa just because she’s a woman. He’s in love with Vanessa because he loves her,” says Reynolds. It seems likely that the DEADPOOL sequel will explore more of their relationship, but as for the future, anything's possible.

Speaking of the future, Ryan Reynolds has already sketched out where the franchise could go after the upcoming sequel, and one of the ideas he's kicking around is a Wolverine/Deadpool team-up film. Unfortunately the upcoming LOGAN has been heavily reported as Hugh Jackman's final film as the character, but Reynolds isn't giving up hope that he can lure Jackman back one more time. "I have no idea if I can change his mind," said Reynolds. "It’s the audience: I would exclusively exploit that relationship to get Hugh back for another one." As for Jackman, he's isn't saying no just yet as he can "totally see how that's the perfect fit," but admits that the "timing may be wrong."

DEADPOOL 2 is set for a January 2, 2018 release.

i'm up for that

Would be great to see a Deadpool and wolverine movie in itself and not a Deadpool 3 or Wolverine 4 movie with each concerned character in it...my gut feeling is that this movie will happen as I believe Hugh Jackman will wait to see if Logan was a success...from the Logan trailer that I saw I believe that it will happen as I believe this time they will get the Wolverine character right with the Logan movie...and if it happens this teamup will come out in 2-3 years.

At least give us SOMETHING from a Wolverine/DP moment

I hope DP3 or even DP2 deals with Deadpool and Cable trying to track down Wolverine. With the three of them giving us one good vs moment (the one we fans deserve to wash away the Origins vs scene) and then give us DP and Wolverine kicking ass together. One R rated slicey dicey, pineapple surprise, berserker barrage 5 minute scene. Then Hugh Jackman can go his separate way.

100% sure it wasn't him

As much as I love this movie and how well he does in it I am kinda bummed he keeps implying he leaked the footage. I know for sure it wasn't him and Tim knows who did.

would be fun

A Wolverine/Deadpool teamup film would be pretty amazing. Also, since they started this story about his love interest(s)/sexuality, just go out and have Wolverine and Deadpool bang, at least once, c'mon.

A Wolverine/Deadpool movie would be awesome! Hopefully, Jackman will make an exception and play the part again.

A hundred times YES! to the Wolverine/Deadpool teamup film

In my opinion, this should be a completely standalone team up film without worrying too much into what's happening or had happened in the Wolverine and Deadpool solo films. In the comics Deadpool has countless out-of-continuity standalone and teamup adventures regularly, and Deadpool's comics are particularly notorious for not always faithfully following chronology or continuity issues, which as a casual reader is a blessing to just jump into whatever storylines sounds most fun (unlike most of

So the film franchise should also take that to heart and not rely too much on what happened or how, and just have fun. As Jackman and Raynolds have a very good friendly relation offscreen I have high hopes that in the near future we'll be lucky enough to see it actually happening.

Fox should throw as much money at Jackman and give Reynolds all the creative freedom he would need to make this happen for the two of them and their characters.

I can understand why Jackman would say that the timing is wrong considering Logan is his 'swan song', but who's to say that he doesn't show up in Deadpool 3 and build the anticipation for not only another Deadpool sequel, but for possibly seeing him don the claws ONE more time.

They've already done too much marketing that this will be Jackman's last portrayal of Logan ("one last time") . But if I were a producer (or just in PR), I'd put the spin on it that we meant his last time playing him in a solo outing and allow him to still play him in team-up and ensemble films. Fans would more or less be okay with no more Wolverine movies, but no one wants to see Jackman leave the role. Also, even though Marvel hasn't said it, I'm pretty sure they're already doing this with
