Saban Films to bring gangster crime drama Shot Caller stateside

04.11.2017

Recently, Saban Films snagged the rights to Alexandros Avranas' TRUE CRIMES with Jim Carrey attached to star. After that, they grabbed up John Stockwell's sci-fi thriller ARMED RESPONSE from WWE Studios, Gene Simmons and Erebus Pictures. Now we're getting word that Saban has also acquired the North American distribution rights to Ric Roman Waugh's gangster crim drama SHOT CALLER. As described, SHOT CALLER centers around a newly paroled prison gangster who is forced by the leaders of his gang to plot a major crime in opposition of a merciless rival gnag on the sunny streets of Southern California. Now please, Mr. DJ, cue us up some Red Hot Chili Peppers to set the mood!

Set to star in the film are stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (GAME OF THRONES), Lake Bell (BOSTON LEGAL), Jon Bernthal (THE WALKING DEAD), Emory Cohen (BROOKLYN), Omari Hardwick (POWER) and Benjamin Bratt (DOCTOR STRANGE).

Waugh produced under his Cadre Filmworks banner alongside Jonathan King for Participant Media, and Bold Films’ Michel Litvak and Gary Michael Walters.  Bold Films’ Jeffrey Stott and Lisa Zambri, Rhodes Entertainment’s Matthew Rhodes, and Participant Media’s Jeff Skoll executive produced. Ness Saban, Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban Films. WME handled North American rights.

With no release or production date set for SHOT CALLER, we'll have to wait and see what shakes out for this intriguing gangster-related drama as the ball continues to roll.

Extra Tidbit: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's first big screen feature role was in NIGHTWATCH (1994).
