Sacha Baron Cohen will take on a key role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

Nov. 14, 2011by: George Merchan

Quick casting update for DJANGO UNCHAINED. Again!

According to Variety, Sacha Baron Cohen (THE DICTATOR, HUGO) is in final negotiations to join Quentin Tarantino's eagerly awaited anti-slavery film. Cohen would play 'Scotty', "a gambler who buys Django's wife as a female companion." You might remember from just last week that that part was originally offered to Jonah Hill, which is such a weird, interesting, and probably better change-up after all is said and done. The part is said to be a small but very important one in the film.

The project recently added actors Rex Linn, James Remar, Tom Wopat, Todd Allen, and James Russo to an already HUGE cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Christoph Waltz, Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, RZA, and Don Johnson.

DJANGO UNCHAINED is set for release on Christmas Day 2012.

Good addition...on another note...

I still want to know where Samm Levin's character, "Pvt Hirschberg" disappears to in Inglorious Basterds...he vanishes from the film completely...lol...I still ponder that.

What a cast! This is turning out to be a monster. Of course, I was sold all the way back when it was "Quentin Tarantino, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L. Jackson."

Cohen is gold. He was superb in slightly straighter roles in Sweeney Todd and in Talladega Nights. A true chameleon as an actor. He's got an interesting charisma whatever he does, kind of reminds me of Frank Zappa.

I think Cohen is a phenomenal actor. His "characters" may be hit or miss, but I think it takes a lot of talent to become someone else and maintain that persona for as long as he has to for movies like Borat and Bruno. Given the right material, he could be amazing.

Well, that depends on how you look at Tarantino's 'biggest cast'. He did write the script to True Romance, which had wayyyyyyyy higher star status.

It's old i heard this last week,i'll give a pass though cause it was veterans day when i heard it and it seems the joblo reporters had the day off. i also read that jonah hill was offered a different part something about an overweight kid that is the son of the man who ends up with the enslaved woman. anybody clarify that?

The part that Sacha Baron Cohen is in final negotiations for is the exact same part that was offered to Jonah Hill last week. Which made my eyebrow raise... because SBC ain't fat. And Scotty is a fat sweet slave-owner that treats Django's wife with dignity and love and then gets sort of screwed over big time by DiCaprio. But wow, you know. SBC getting some work with Burton, Scorsese, almost Spielberg and now Tarantino ? The man's on a roll ^^

No matter who or how many people are put in this movie, Jaime Foxx still ruins it.

I'd just call it his biggest cast since Pulp Fiction. Now, here's hoping it's used as well.
