Saddle up with the first trailer for Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven

04.20.2016

The Magnificent Seven Antoine Fuqua Denzel Washington Chris Pratt Ethan Hawke Banner

Yesterday we brought you the first images from THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and now it's time to break out the whiskey and six-shooters because the first trailer has arrived for the remake!

Director Antoine Fuqua's take on the classic Western "kicks off when a woman (Haley Bennett) hires a disparate group of gunslingers to protect her town from rampaging bandits that are led by a robber baron." Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier make up the titular seven, while Peter Sarsgaard plays the film's main villain, and other cast members include Vinnie Jones, Cam Gigandet and Luke Grimes.

"How many men you say?"

Can't wait...

... To hear the LAST EVER James Horner's score !
And to think he wrote it BEFORE the actual shooting fo the film...
Another interesting thing:
comparing the editing between the US teaser (the first 2 min) and the international one (the last 1min 30 or so) !

This does NOT work unless.....

they are willing to portray these guys as bad guys. What made the original so good was that they weren't afraid to make those characters cold, which made their transition so meaningful when they were willing to sacrifice themselves. Denzel seemed fine, but Pratt was playing Chris Pratt (which has to stop soon or he becomes Will Smith). That simply won't work unless he's the ONLY one who isn't a hardcore bad guy. This isn't supposed to be Silverado.

They need to have the balls to make

Agreed. I mean, maybe not The Wild Bunch bad (although Peckinpah drew from The Seven Samurai for that, too).

I don't know....

looks too clean. Also looks PG-13ish. My type of westerns have to have the 3 B's: Booze, Boobs and Blood.

It looks pretty decent. The trailer could have been far worse.

"Enough."

The Magnificent Seven was never a great movie in my opinion. Iconic, yes. Career-making, HELL yes. But great? It was an Americanized version of Kurosawa's epic Seven Samurai, with a little more emphasis on style. So I don't have any particular issue with them remaking it (again). Granted, the cast here is a lot more weathered than the original cast, although Denzel is pretty much the only actor I can see pulling off the singular cool that Yul Brynner did with the original (meanwhile, I feel

One thing I wish they'd kept in this trailer was the answer to the question Sarsgaard asks at the end. It's one of the best lines in the Sturges movie: "How many of you did they hire?" "Enough."

I think I'll enjoy this. Don't get me wrong it looks dumb as shit, but I might be able to enjoy it in a way I enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead "re-make" in that I can enjoy the mindless popcorn sugar high it'll give me for the running time and then immediately forget it for the rest of recorded time afterward.

The rock song, the bang bang bang editing, makes it look like just about every other action film out there.
No real epic feel to it at all.

Yep, stale. I'm gonna say it, Chris Pratt will need to become a lot less Chris Pratty if he is gonna sustain himself without becoming boring. He's a popular flavor at the moment but so was Paul Walker back in the day - gonna need to see some range from him before we get too many more bland funny-hero roles from him. Jurassic Park = Star Lord vs dinosaurs, this = Star Lord and Denzel with six shooters.

Lynnie! Paul Walker never had half the career Chris Pratt has already had. In my opinion "Running Scared" was his only good film. I think he became more popular after his death. Not a fan of F&F myself but those were ensemble pieces and he wasn't necessarily the star. I don't think he's been in anything that has grossed over $75million on his own. Pratt's had 3 $1billion+ hits in a year. Walker was never in the the same league. Dude was a doorknob. Pratt has charisma to spare.

Looks like a funnier version of Ridiculous 6

I don't like the song choice or the editing of this trailer. It seems like an attempt to get the Dwayne Johnson/Fast and Furious crowd. Give me some banjo, guitar and a slower paced not so jumpy editing style and this would have looked good. For now it's a wait and see.

Lynnie

I was really looking forward to seeing a trailer for this as the original is such a classic, but that trailer and the style of the movie is giving me way too much of a Texas Rangers vibe... You remember Texas Rangers? That western from 2001 starring James Van Der Beek, Ashton Kutcher and Usher Raymond? No you don't because no one does.

Tarantinos last two flicks, along with True Grit and Bone Tomahawk are some pretty good recent westerns proving the genre has still got life in this

Tarantinos last two flicks, along with True Grit and Bone Tomahawk are some pretty good recent westerns proving the genre has still got life in this generation and further, I'm worried this Mag 7 remake could contain a little too much cheese to rank among those or to compare to the original.

Western needs a hit to reborn !

Like Gladiator did for the peplum, the western needs a huge it in order to bring young audiences to the genre and then make more westerns...
I hope this one, which looks good, will be that movie...

I think Western movies, as of late, are quite good such as Bone Tomahawk, The Hateful Eight or Diablo that has Scott Eastwood in it. I guess younger audiences just don't care much about Western anymore.

A lot of great actors in here. Mix it with some good old fashion western action and this looks like the makings of a great movie. I can't wait til it comes out.

Looks loads of fun with the cast looking in top form; I just hope every character has their chance to shine considering the talent they have. Should be another solid addition to the western genre. Can't wait.
