Wait...you don't know who Dan Dare is? Sweet! I haven't heard of him either!

Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future is a British science fiction superhero that Sam Worthington has apparently signed on to play.

Dare has been around since 1950 and was created by Frank Hampson. The pilot of the future is the equivalent of Buck Rogers. He's also the chief of the Interplanet space fleet, and even though he has no super powers, he kicks super ass (Or so they say).

More recently, Virgin Comics bought the property and decided that Dare needed a re-vamping. So they brought Garth Ennis on to create a darker version of the character. Once Ennis finished the comic, a film was supposed to come out of that. Well, the comic came out in 2008 so the development has been a little slow. However, now with Worthington signed, Warner Brothers are hoping that things will pick up rather quickly.

The project is said to be a major priority for Warner Bros. There is currently no writer or director signed, but that should change soon.

The pic below is what the re-vamped Dare looks like:

Why does this guy keep getting jobs???? Somebody has to explain to me, because he is as transparent as a glass of a water. He has zero charisma, zero presence, and even I - who am not american - find his pronunciation most annoying. So once again... why the heck does he keep getting work and making headlines?

A Dan Dare film could be incredible if done right - if done badly you'll end up with something like Sky Captain and the World Of Tomorrow. Retro futuristic is definitely the way to go with this - something along the lines of the Warren Ellis graphic novel "The Ministry of Space", which was heavily influenced by Dan Dare comics. Dan Dare needs to be very old-skool English, and should hopefully...

Dan Dare needs to be very old-skool English, and should hopefully smoke a pipe. I have no idea whether Worthington could pull it off or not though.

for some reason i can't see Mr. Worthington pulling off a British accent..but hey, they'll most likely just rewrite him as a Aussie pilot of the future..so no worries mate

I like him and all, but it seems that he is grabbing every action role out there. Would like to see him do a different genre of some sort

Sounds fishy...
Why would Worthington play a character second to Kirk? Sorry, make that third. Spock is second.

Worthington is playing an action hero? Man, now that's a change of pace.
