Sandra Bullock is probably not doing a sequel to The Heat

10.02.2013by:

Is a second installment of THE HEAT in Sandra Bullock's future? It's not likely according to her.

“I’m not doing a sequel to ‘The Heat. I’ve done two sequels. They were horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful. We might do another film together. I think we should do a silent film together.”

Which sequels could she be referring to? MISS CONGENIALITY 2: ARMED AND FABULOUS, SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL, and THE NET 2: WEB OF LIES. Okay, scratch that last one off (we can dream). All silliness aside, isn't she right? Did you go and see either of those? I'll give you a pass for SPEED 2.

Director Paul Feig has a hard time imagining a sequel without either lady, “It would be very hard. They’re so great together. Their chemistry is so awesome. I would be very sad if I didn’t have both of them back.” That said, Feig seems to be moving ahead with screenwriter Katie Dippold. A first draft has already been delivered and is said to have met Feig's expectations.

A few months ago, Bullock said that she would "never say never" in an interview with EW but if it was "better than the first one" she would look at it.

Do you want a sequel to THE HEAT?

Just because her 2 previous sequels sucked, doesn't mean this one will. At least read the screenplay before making a decision.

Why wouldn't she at least read the script before saying no? Not that I really give a crap, but just saying.

ugh

Not every "successful" team up has to have sequels. Tommyboy didn't need a sequel to get Farley and Spade back together. Every movie doesn't need a fregging three picture arc. Damn.

The Cold

Don't do a sequel, but if the comedic chemistry is good do a Cornetto trilogy style, and do an anthology instead of sequels. Change genres, settings, characters and do nods to previous film. I think if studios more tried to repair great dynamics and not try and force a story that doesn't exist, you could have 3-4 collaborations over the years and get a following for how they tie together. Trading Places and Coming to America were kind of in that vein as the Duke's were in both films.
