Jigsaw Rather than worrying about the speculation that builds every year around whether another SAW film will be released, Lionsgate recently announced that they'll be making SAW films for the foreseeable future. That's right, we'll be getting a SAW film every year until the end of time. Lionsgate realizes the popularity of the franchise isn't about to dwindle anytime soon so there's absolutely no reason to stop making them. Maybe in twenty or so years people will get a little annoyed by morality-based torture traps every Haloween but even then, it'll still make a killing on DVD. Alright, so they didn't really announce that. What they really announced was that SAW VI will be released on October 23rd of next year but at this rate, "till the end of time" isn't far off. As the box office numbers show, the franchise is really popular so they'll probably realistically go for at least three more movies. What do you guys think?

I'd be hip for this if they'd consider novel ways of filming it: e.g. animated/anime version, musical, parody, and so on. I'm not even kidding about the musical version.

Ehh,after 3 years of hating on this franchise I can say that I don't care anymore.Make them, cash in on ur fans, wtf ever, as long as I get to pretend that they don't exist and do not go see them I'm content.

To see part 6 flop hardcore at the b.o. would be spectacular tho. :)

I liked the first couple...just haven't seen any of the others, they seem like a fun (cheesy) tradition to go to the movies on Halloween & if they continue to make $$$, why not keep making them? Great point by Lucas.."If you don't like them just don't go see them." If we let all the other crappy movies made actually bother us I am sure we would all be pretty darn miserable.

Hey, thanks for the spoilers, whoever it was that posted their Saw 1-10 plan. I have yet to see 5 so you def spoiled somethin there for me.

Anywhoo, I love this franchise, always have. Ive said it tons of times before and I will say it once again.

the continuity between all the installments is crazy cool and almost flawless. Each entry is linked in some way to the previous ones, the timelines for each one are all intertwined and I really think they've done an amazing job with the writing. Sure, the acting isn't stellar, and there have been some installments that lack substance that others have had, but, considering the writers have been different on some of the scripts but still have great continuity I think just shows how strong the overall storyline through the 6 films is. It definitely is proof that they had a clear story arch to tell for 6 films and I think the series does a great job.

Every Halloween I go (this was the first year I missed it) and it's become a fun tradition for me. I wasnt old enough in the 80's to have a horror franchise I could go see every year/every other year so I enjoy Saw.

As long as they have a story to tell and there is money to make, then count me in.

Quick note....
they said last year, when part 4 came out, that they had always had 6 movies in mind when they started this frachise, and that they have no intentions of going past that, so, the fact that there's another one coming out shouldn't really suprise anyone.

I'm just tired of this franchise and i really thought that with the mediocre take at the box-office that the franchise was dead but it doesn't look like it. So i'm going to have to find a way to see this movie for free like i did the last 2 installment

actually caught the fifth installment at the cinema earlier tonight. thought the first one was great, 2nd and 3rd were ok. WARNING SPOILER lost interest after 3rd seeing as how jigsaw died and all and now there's too much flashback to keep my mind on top of it all (i know, not much to brag about). 4th and now 5th were unnecessary. they should have concluded at the end of the 3rd and kept it as...

if it is true that tobin bell is only signed on for 6 films, my best guess is that they'll stop the tradition there regarding releasing one every halloween. but expect them to probably sign up a few nobodies and release another three or so installments direct-to-DVD after that.

That they managed to make an entertaining trilogy out of Saw 1-3 was pretty surprising. They're pretty decent films with a nice story arc. 4 was the first one I didn't bother catching at the cinema, and I wasn't overly impressed with it. I would've seen Saw 5 if I'd heard anything positive about it, but as yet I haven't. If they ever did anything to recapture the vibe of Saw 2 though, I'd be...

Don't worry.
To those who are growing increasingly annoyed by the neverending string of Saw films, I think we can take solace in the fact that the very existence of these films signifies the end of time, so it won't be too long. I think prophesies of the end times include the lack of originality and a rise in uninspired sequels, though I could be wrong. I don't exactly know where it says that Hollywood,...

I think prophesies of the end times include the lack of originality and a rise in uninspired sequels, though I could be wrong. I don't exactly know where it says that Hollywood, much less the Saw franchise, will be responsible for the end times, but fading creativity must be a bad sign on the human race.

Of course, I am mostly joking, but I couldn't help but chuckle when I read the line "we'll be getting a SAW film every year until the end of time." What's more scary: the films or knowing that the series will never end? Maybe next we will see a movie where Jigsaw's torture is forcing his victim to watch a series of the Saw films, promising that they will never end! He can even thros in some of the recent remakes of classic horror films produced by Michael Bay, Sam Raimi (through his Ghost House production company), and others. Now that would be scary!

WTF
I thought the 6th would be the final installment. Now that I've heard this news it'll be the last one I see. I don't want to continue watching a series that no longer has a purpose but instead just continues to make a profit.

Not Suprised.
Right after seeing the first one I thought to myself..well there's another movie that will be ruined by umpteen sequels....and the prophecy has come true.

This series has had absolutely no redeeming qualities since the original. I enjoyed the first film for its originality and a clever ending, but 5 was an absolute waste of time.

I honestly thought 5 was the worst in the series. The films seem to be drifting further into complete nonsense. Plus now that Darren Bousman has moved on after 2-4 I really lost hope.

I am glad to hear this news because I love the franchise, but at the same time, I want them to end on a high note. Oh well, I guess we will see.

Today we get our 22nd (official) Bond film in 46 years, so thats almost a Bond movie every 2 years. And I hope that goes on forever.

If thats what they want to do, then I think thats fine.

Who cares, whenever it ends it'll just be a few years before they start remaking the original, just like they're doing with Halloween, Friday, etc.

When Tobin Bell quits, so do I.

Saw V was an improvement, but not worthy of anything beyond 6.

didnt they go on record a while ago and say that Saw 6 was going ot the final chapter? Maybe they are only looking at the money, which isnt unheard of, but i remember hearing that the saw franchise was going to end at 6.

I don't understand how they could make more than one more. Hoffman's storyline is drawing to a close and obviously they will reveal what happened to Dr. Gordon and that character will have some closure, as will Jill, but other than that...that's it. There's nothing left to tell. All loose ends will be tied up.

im a saw fan, but i do hope they stop after 6. i know bell is only signed on for 6 films. but they seemed to be setting it up for someone to take over. but that will ruin the story.

6 and out. maybe in a few years when they can draft a multiple movie story arc bring it back. but i wouldnt be upset if they didnt.

...seriously?
Saw 5 wasnt terrible, but it wasnt anything new, the game itself seemed to take a backseat to the flashbacks. I think they should do one more to wrap everything up and be done with it for at least 5 years if not forever. but as long as they keep bringing in mad money Lionsgate wont stop, so fuck it.
