Saw was supposed to end at VII, but now maybe not

UPDATE: Looks like someone has changed their mind...again. Betsy Russell returned to PopWrap (the original source for this article) and said: "I have loved being a part of this 'Saw' series and as a fan, I hate to see it come to a close, but obviously this is a filmmaker decision and not one I was any part of. Sorry if my earlier enthusiasm as a fan got misconstrued as fact."‬ So there you go, folks. It's over...apparently... ;)

So I've been asking how exactly the SAW franchise plans to title their installments after doing away with the numbers in favor of being called SAW 3D. But as it turns out, apparently the cast and crew really did believe THIS was going to be the last saw film at long last.

But now Betsy Russell, who plays Jigsaw’s surprisingly hot wife Jill, is saying differently. Here’s what she told PopWrap.

"Before we thought it was ending [with 'Saw 7'], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for 'Saw 8']," Betsy revealed to PopWrap. "It's an amazing story that I would love to see."

"We want to end near the top, with our integrity intact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, ['Saw 8'] will happen."

Really, you don’t want the characters to die a slow death? Is that why Jigsaw took three movies to actually die, and now lives on through a series of nonsensical flashbacks?  You want to leave with your integrity intact? Is that why you're killing janitors for smoking too much and interns for being lonely?

I think I’ve heard this “we were going to end it, but then someone had a great idea!” bit about three or four times in this franchise’s history, and now it just seems like they’re crying wolf. Whatever, I fully expected there to be more SAWs after this, I say they should make it an even ten before they quit, but by that point, the entire movie would probably just be a series of flashbacks to the previous installments. PS: Looks like our very own J-A Hamilton knew what he was talking about, when he wrote this C'MON HOLLYWOOD article just yesterday...

Extra Tidbit: Saw is really more of a TV show that takes place in a theater every season.
