Saw will return to theaters for a 10th anniversary celebration

Game on!

The SAW that started it all is coming back this Halloween as Lionsgate plans to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the movies theatrical release by re-releasing it into theaters nationwide for one week only. The film will open on Friday October 31st, 2014 with select screenings beginning Thursday night. It’s crazy to think it’s still the most successful horror franchise in history, I don’t know what that says about the state of horror, but damn. I enjoyed the first SAW a lot when I came out but I feel its legacy has been diluted with the inadequate sequels.

As we all know, money talks:

"The launch of 'Saw' was a signature event in Lionsgate's history, establishing our first franchise and paving the way for our growth into a global studio," said Lionsgate President of Acquisitions & Co-Productions Jason Constantine. "We are excited for our fans to revisit the twisted magic that first blew their minds on Halloween 2004."

SAW was the first collaboration for director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell. They would go on to create the successful INSIDIOUS franchise, and Wan went on to make one of my favorite horror movies of the last few years, which is also one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, THE CONJURING. I suppose if you are a fan of SAW, you might as well pick up the Blu-ray if you don't already have it, considering it might cost as much as the ticket. I wish they would have a trivia and commentary showing for people who want a little more this time around. For people seeing it for the first time, I applaud your ability to avoid any spoilers for the last decade.

Will you head back to theaters to watch SAW?
