Schwentke sees Red
TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE director Robert Schwentke recently confirmed his status as attached to the film adaptation of the Warren Ellis miniseries RED during a recent conversation with MTV. The comic follows an ex-CIA agent who is hunted by a high-tech assassin, and the film will star Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.
If this sounds like a serious espionage thriller to you though, think again. Schwentke wants things to be a bit more lighthearted than the source material. "I love the script…It's very funny, which the comic book isn't… It's not as violent as the comic book…I like switching gears and this is a movie that allows me to do something lighthearted in tone and is also an action movie.”
Well, we know Bruce Willis has experience with being hunted (in DIE HARD) and Morgan Freeman is familiar with high-tech assassins (in WANTED) and both know the action and comedy genres pretty well. I don’t know how many hardcore fans of the comic will be screaming for a more serious, bloodier adaptation, but an action comedy translation doesn’t sound so bad, as long as it’s done well.
|Extra Tidbit:||An action/comedy hybrid is fine, but the TIME TRAVELERís sci-fi/romance combo? Questionable at best. See THE LAKE HOUSE for reference.|
