Scott Buck tapped as showrunner for Marvel's Iron Fist series on Netflix

12.07.2015

Once upon a time, Marvel announced that they'd be doing an IRON FIST series for Netflix... and that's basically the last we heard about that. There's been very little movement on the property. There hasn't been much talk about it publicly. Outside of some rumblings that the creative minds at Marvel were still figuring out exactly what the show was going to be, IRON FIST has been operating as a ghost in the shared universe.

But that's not the case any longer, with Marvel announcing today that Scott Buck will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix Original Series. Buck had served in the same position for the final four seasons of DEXTER - for better and worse - and also worked as a writer for series like SIX FEET UNDER and ROME.

Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television, must have been really taken by Buck's approach to IRON FIST given how everything appeared to have stalled in order to kickstart it into full gear again.

Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet. We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.

Even better, Marvel went ahead and dropped an official synopsis on us to give us a better indication of what we can expect out of the show.

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Haven't seen Kingdom. But definitely agree that Tucker should get a shot at Iron Fist. That would be some excellent casting.

Marvel needs to convince Netflix to let them do more than two shows a year, possibly three or four and then in addition to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders we could see Punisher, Elektra, Hellcat, Blade, Ghost Rider, Cloak and Dagger and Moon Knight series. This would be in addition to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and the rumored Marvel's Most Wanted (Mockingbird) and Ms. Marvel series. I dunno, that's a lot of shows to do. The shows they have going now don't require a huge production value. There are very little VFX used in the show and they're mostly shot on location in NYC. Aside from Punisher and Elektra, all those shows would have a huge production budgets.

The superhero genre is already at full saturation of the market. Adding all these other shows would just be overkill. And there's no way they would all maintain an audience. Marvel should really just scrap AOS

Marvel should really just scrap AOS altogether as well as the spinoffs and just focus their efforts on the Netflix series. That's clearly where all the talent is at.

Aside from the color and eyeholes, Iron Fist's bandanna thing looks just like Daredevil's for the majority of the season. I wonder if they'll mention that, like Iron Fist took inspiration from DD or something.

I guess in the Marvel universe, all crime only happens in New York. How come none of these heroes are ever from Miami, Detroit, or Houston. I'm just saying, switch it up a little.

well considering most of these guys are from Hells Kitchen it makes sense. And let me know what happened last time The Punisher went to Miami.

Whilst not in Hells Kitchen, The Avengers and Parker are also based in New York - I suppose it wouldn't be too much of a bad idea to spread it out a bit. on a more serious note, I'm wondering why one from JJ, DD or Luke Cage aren't on Coulson's index. I mean Stephen Strange got a name drop in Winter Soldier when we haven't heard a peep out of him yet (admittedly, that was probably Hydra's index)... but there's been a trail of bodies following JJ around in Hell's Kitchen and it seems like a

Marvel back in the days wanted to use a real city unlike DC who were using Metropolis and Gotham. Since the Marvel office was on New York, they decided to use that city for their heroes. With time they started adding a bit of the west coast, but people always seemed to enjoy New York more.

I just hope that Bernthal gets his own spinoff for Punisher. Would love to see a solo series for the Punisher done in the same style and tone as Daredevil.

Never going to forgive this guy for ruining Dexter, but maybe it wasn't completely his fault. I trust Marvel to handle their business so very much looking forward to this series.

How old is Iron Fist anyway, what kind of age range are they looking for? Antony Starr is available.

Daredevil is a action crime drama, Jessica Jones is a noir, Iron Fist should be a homage to 70's chop-socky kung-fu movies.

I wonder what genre Luke Cage will explore? It would be interesting if they filmed the show in the style of old blaxploitation films or along the lines of the original Shaft. The character certainly lends itself to that genre.

It would make a kind of sense. Unfortunately I've never read many early Luke Cage comics in order to judge. I know the original Blade comics were a mix of blaxplotation and Gothic hammer horror, and as much as I enjoyed the Blade movies and Snipes reinvention of the character, I would bloody love a blaxplotation gothic horror.
