Seann William Scott to replace Clayne Crawford on Lethal Weapon

After a dramatic edition of “will they won’t they” in regards to Fox’s plans to bring back Clayne Crawford for another season of LETHAL WEAPON, the network has decided not to renew his annual contract. In his place, the network has hired Seann William Scott to come in and replace him as Damon Wayans’ partner in crime (fighting) in season three.

According to the news from Fox (via Deadline), Scott will not be taking on the role of Martin Riggs (Crawford), and will instead play a new character who partners with Wayans’ Roger Murtaugh. This will come after the recent season two finale which ended on a cliffhanger where (SPOILERS) Riggs was shot in the chest. I guess he doesn’t make it.

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment president. “Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

The decision to not renew Crawford’s contract came after the star was accused of bad on-set behavior by several crew members, which included outbursts and an incident resulting in an injury during an episode he directed. Crawford apologized for his actions saying he was “sorry if my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on the set, or feel less than celebrated for their efforts.”

What a roller coaster! There were many who believed the show could get canceled over the Crawford thing, but it's great they could solve the issue without punishing everyone else. Crawford needs to take some time to gather himself and re-evaluate his behavior, and him being on the show is not the best place for him to be. Scott is a great talent as we've seen in his many movies and the show will be better for him being around.
