Second trailer for Winter's Tale starring Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe

Jan. 31, 2014by: Jesse Giroux

A new trailer for WINTER'S TALE has landed, and Warner Bros. should really just call the film, "COLIN FARRELL IS SAD AND IN LOVE." ABOUT LAST NIGHT and ENDLESS LOVE open on February 14th as well (and ROBOCOP will hit theaters two days earlier), however I feel like WINTER'S TALE is going to be the big Valentine's Day date movie this year. It's one of those movies that'll probably get destroyed by critics, but do very well at the box office.

Love And Stuff

Synopsis:

Set in a mythic New York City and spanning more than a century, "Winter's Tale" is a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil. The film stars Colin Farrell ("Total Recall"), Jessica Brown Findlay (TV's "Downton Abbey"), and Oscar® winners Jennifer Connelly ("A Beautiful Mind"), William Hurt ("Kiss of the Spider Woman"), Eva Marie Saint ("On the Waterfront") and Russell Crowe ("Gladiator"). "Winter's Tale" also introduces young newcomers Ripley Sobo and Mckayla Twiggs (both from Broadway's "Once"). The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind"), who also wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed novel by Mark Helprin.

What's my opinion on WINTER'S TALE? I will say I'm a big Colin Farrell fan and Russell Crowe should be excellent as the villain, but the trailers haven't done anything for me, and I just don't think the upcoming film looks that great. Maybe I'll be surprised and it'll be a decent flick, but right now I'm not sold on WINTER'S TALE. Most of you probably aren't either, but if you have a  significant other, there's a very good chance you'll be seeing this in a couple of weeks.

WINTER'S TALE  will be in theaters on February 14th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Have any of you read the Mark Helprin novel? Any good?

I don't know if it's just my romantic side, or if it's my man-crush on Colin Farrell, or what, but I am pretty excited for this movie. The trailer was effective for me, especially the song in it, and it looks like it'll be made with some more care than something like "The Last Song".

I don't mind these films and the film fans that go see it. I can understand the appeal and I thought the trailer was effective and the two leads look like they have great chemistry.

BoxOffice.com is projecting a $15MM opening but a $30MM total haul. And like others have said, Farrell is box office poison. Notice how he was entirely left out of the marketing material for Saving Mister Banks even though the critics all said he was the most impressive part of the film? Yeah, others are right, he's box office poison. What's interesting to me is that Akiva Goldsman has stacked this movie with cameos and parts for a litany of Has Been lead actors, from Crowe and Farrell to Will

Colin Farrell? Box office poison.

I like Farrell as an actor, I really do, but he has proven time and again that he is simply not an above-the-title leading actor. He's literally not had a single hit headlining film since 2003's SWAT, and since then has been in a number of high-profile box office disasters (chief among them, Miami Vice and Total Recall, which lost the studios hundreds of millions). The question here is, How does this guy continue to get these lead roles when even his independent films (like Dead Man Down and

The question here is, How does this guy continue to get these lead roles when even his independent films (like Dead Man Down and Seven Psychopaths) prove to be duds at the box office? I imagine his agent must have some serious Hollywood blackmail. Either way, you can write this one off as DOA just based on his presence alone. He'd be best sticking to supporting roles (like recently in Saving Mr Banks) as he's a gifted character actor (In Bruges is another example, so is Horrible Bosses) but simply NOT lead actor material.

LOL. Why do you care how much money he makes for a studio? He's giving his time to treat us to a story. At least try to appreciate it.

The movie looks like one genre cliche after another, and some of that dialogue is truly cringe-worthy.
