02.22.2015

And, that's a wrap! Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Oscars Live Chat this year! Check out the FULL list of WINNERS below!

Drum-roll folks, the time has come! Yes the 2015 Academy Awards are almost here after a crazy 2014 and I am once again proud to be hosting the LIVE CHAT event which will be taking place on Sunday beginning at 7:30 pm EST sharp. The live chat is a very proud tradition that we have here at JoBlo where we invite absolutely anyone to join in for some terrific conversations such as how badly the host is bombing, funny crowd moments, goofy speeches, counting Oscar pool results, Jack Nicholson sightings, how shit-faced is Ricky Gervais and many more guaranteed memorable moments.

The best part again is that anyone can participate and we always have a blast chatting with everyone during the show. So if you'd like to get in on the fun, just visit back to this article before the ceremony as again the chat will begin at 7pm EST. Also if you happen to be mobile or out-and-about during the ceremony, our very own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey will once again be hosting our LIVE TWITTER FEED (@JoBlo Twitter page) for all the latest updates on the event. Hope to see you there!

My take on last night: a pretty good show. Not the best, but NPH was a competent host. I knew that much going in, but if he's asked back he could even become a pretty great Oscar host (the Oscars ain't the Tonys). Surprisingly, I got most of the technical awards right, but as the night progressed I got the screenplays wrong, Best Actor wrong (I knew Redmayne was the only threat to Keaton, and don't begrudge him the win), and both Picture and Director wrong. Surprisingly, I got most of the technical awards right, but as the night progressed I got the screenplays wrong, Best Actor wrong (I knew Redmayne was the only threat to Keaton, and don't begrudge him the win), and both Picture and Director wrong. At the same time, I think in another way I kind of won, because I liked Birdman just a little bit more than I liked Boyhood, personally. Boyhood was the greater achievement, but I can honestly say neither film felt like anything I had seen before. While other great movies were nominated, those two felt unique. I also was glad that a surprising number of winners used their win as an opportunity to deliver larger messages. Because nothing is more boring than when everyone is competing for being the least coherent winner of the night. Also, even the Original Songs felt competitive.

Now, did everyone who should have won win? Absolutely not. They rarely ever do. But it's like Inaritu said when he accepted Best Director, about art not being about competition.

Just curious who won for best film score? I don't see it listed up there. I know both of my choices weren't even nominated (Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross for Gone Girl and Johnny Greenwood for Inherent Vice). I'm just curious who the Academy decided deserved it.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'm glad it went to a film like Budhapest and not something else. I'm more willing to forgive the snub since Trent already won for The Social Network but his film scores are just sooo damn good.

Please tell me

how Big Hero 6 could possibly be considered a better film than HTTYD2? I just don't see it. The Academy needs to get some more diverse voters or something, because this Disney monopoly on the animated categories is becoming a joke in and of itself. I mean, come on. Fist they snub the first Dragon, and now this. It's insult to injury, it's disingenuous, it's ignoring the reality that these films are classics. I just will never accept this idea that a Disney movie is automatically better than all

Not to mention that the story in Big Hero 6 was just ok, Dragon 2 was really well told. Both were beautifully animated but Dragon 2 was a better piece of art in every way.

Yeah I really wanted it to go to Guardians of the Galaxy because of how fluid Rocket and Groot felt in that movie. Then when I saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was in the list I thought damn that was insane all the visuals that had in it, it was amazing. Yeah I felt Dawn got robbed there. But its all politics, the Oscars have always been.

Dakota Johnson is a BRAT

And two-faced. When she was promoting her movie, she specifically said she did not want her parents to see 50 Shades. But all eyes on her at the red carpet ceremony and she acts like a little baby when her mom says it. What a two-face brat.

Eddie "Fucking" Redmayne!!!!!!

I have to the conclusion that like the grammys and every other awards show, that the Oscars are just a joke. How the Hell Keaton didn't win is beyond me! Plus why wasn't Miles Teller nominated for Whiplash, yet Bradley Cooper, who is totally average was nominated, again for American Sniper????? Joke shop.

Well, you had me until Cooper. His transformation into Kyle was spectacular. I haven't seen Birdman so won't say Keaton didn't deserve it, but calling him average is the joke.

As for Redmayne, he played a genius scientist with a debilitating disease. Of course he won. It's called Oscar bait.

I have never been upset about an awards show... until Keaton lost the Oscar... so pissed.

I also have to say that the song from selma is good... but 3 standing ovations was ridiculous.

Also i loathe Oprah... just need to get that out there. .. i can not stand her at all.

I was surprised when Birdman won Best Picture, because after Keaton lost, I thought for sure it wasn't gonna win. I wasn't impressed with the best actor & actress wins & Julianne Moore's performance felt so much like Oscar bait. Can't really say the same for Redmayne, but the Academy usually does give the award to those who play disabled characters.

I usually have a tradition of buying the movie that wins best picture, so it looks like I will be adding Birdman to my collection. Though the

What is it with critics and artsy-drama-depressing films..?

We were 8 "watching" Birdman yesterday before the oscars. By the middle of the film, some left to grab something to eat and took about 15min to return, others grabbed their phone to check on facebook and me myself, started reading the newspaper. At the end, we all scratch our heads as no-one said "wow.. that was amazing". The verdict: Boring, depressing and too "artsy".

It was ambitious, I'll give it that.. but to call it "the best movie of the year"??? What a bunch of boloney!

Unlike films such as The Return of the King, Gladiator, The Godfather, those deserve re-watching and praise. Huge cinema accomplishments.

Seriously, who is going to sit through it again?

Sorry for trolling it, but come on... let's be honest, it is going to be forgotten in a few months.

I seen it 3 times and would watch it again. It is a required taste I guess. Birdman also makes fun of itself in the way you are complaining about it, it says towards the end "no body wants any of this depressing philosophical bullshit! People want explosions and..." It is aware of its pretentious style. It is a very deep film, you have to watch it a few times to catch on to the metaphors and analogies of Hollywood.
But I get yeah, action is always more entertaining.

Hurray! Finally someone who saw what I saw in Birdman -- pretentious, depressing, trying too hard to be "high art" and falling short.

And "The Imitation Game" is hardly explosions and action. But it was a much better movie than Birdman.

And FYI, it's "acquired taste", not "required taste"

Does anyone re-watches The Artist? Or Chicago? Same thing with Birdman...

I'm not going to state that they should award a film like Guardians of the Galaxy (although that would be very ballsy and cool), but at least don't praise out loud like it was "THE BEST OF 2014".

Personally, I thought that Interstellar was a great cinema accomplishment, lying within the same veins or similar to 2001:Space Odyssey, but I understand why it might be polarizing, leaving a lot of people disliking it,

Personally, I thought that Interstellar was a great cinema accomplishment, lying within the same veins or similar to 2001:Space Odyssey, but I understand why it might be polarizing, leaving a lot of people disliking it, therefore, it cannot be considered "THE BEST".

The Godfather for example, I've heard of people that have never watched it or that simply do not like it, but.. never.. not once.. I've heard anyone say that it sucked or that it was boring.

Heck, even The Grand Budapest Hotel, while not my cup of tea (not at all into the hipster Anderson's cinema) was better in a sense that at least had some fun performances and a quirky style.

Calling Birdman funny or deep.. that is simply preposterous. It is depressing and plain old pretentious. It doesn't leave you thinking about the twist in the end, or discussing the plot meaning or whatever... is not even "fun". It doesn't even leave you with a message or some awakening or some kind teaching.

To call Birdman "THE BEST" is like saying that 50 Shades of Crap is "THE SEXIEST FILM".

Birdman was good and entertaining until the very end when it went too dark. I dont think it's as good as other Best Picture winners

Overall a safe and predictable awards show. The only real surprise was Imitation Game winning Adapted Screenplay; I liked the film, but a writing nod is pushing it.

Basically, everyone that was expected to win, won. Can't really complain about the acting awards (Simmons is awesome in Whiplash and Arquette was the true heart and soul of Boyhood). Best Pic was between Birdman and Linklater's 12 year opus, so it's no big shock, really.

The only gripe I have with the Oscars is that there is no longer any suspense whatsoever, mostly due to the 22 or so awards shows that precede this one. Until AMPAS can legitimately surprise you, the Oscars will never change.

As for Neil Patrick Harris, he was alright, but looked clearly nervous half the time. His jabs at Travolta were gold. Barney Stinson is still the man. Now I expect people to once again ask to have Billy Crystal back like they've been doing for the past ten years or so.

sweet Jesus

No complaints about who won what.

People saying Eddie shouldn't have won are clueless, do they even realise how much effort goes into a performance like that?

Glad the gimmick that is boyhood didn't get best director or film.

I was worried cooper would have got actor, that god since prevailed.

I'm very glad that J.K. Simmons won Best supporting actor from Whiplash. As for Best actor, had Eddie Redmayne been nominated in another year, I'm sure Michael Keaton would win. He was Fantastic in Birdman. For Best picture, though I hope The Grand Budapest Hotel would win, it's equally great to see Birdman wins.

But Drew liked Birdman! You must have a mix-up somewhere. I think he didn't like Imitation Game so much, are you confusing that review with Birdman's maybe? Or did Faraci or someone similar not like it and you remembered wrong who it was? Drew gave Birdman an 'A' and called it technically dazzling and one of the years most thrilling pieces of film-craft. I like Drew a lot, good opinions and good writing, but I don't always agree completely with him.

I like Drew a lot, good opinions and good writing, but I don't always agree completely with him.

Out of all of the awards, I'm pulling for Keaton to win Best Actor the most.

You know how this works. He played a genius scientist with a paralyzing disease. If they could have made him a transgendered slave victim during the Holocaust he would have won every award for the night.

Cooper deserved it as well. His performance was stunning.

@Des1.....totally agree about the whole "you know how this works" and about Cooper deserving it as well.

But in all honesty, I still think Gyllenhaal gave the best all around performance for Nightcrawler and it's terrible that he wasn't even nominated.

Oscars are turning into a joke (or has been a joke the last couple of years).

Agreeing with @The_Soloist
Jake Gyllenhaal outperformed all of them this year. He deserved a nom atleast.
But Redmayne's win is pure farce.
