See you in 2013, Superman! Man of Steel pushed back

07.21.2011

So, guess what? You won't be seeing Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL until 2013.

Perhaps they wanted to hold off until after the apocalypse. Superman is basically like, "Be there. Done that."

Realistically, I'd say they just wanted to fine tune everything. Cross the t's and dot the lower case j's. They've got a good cast and other good factors going for them as well. Why just spit the movie out? I'm not surprised since the other day we were talking about Kurt Johnstad and Jonathan Nolan taking cracks at the script. This also feels like it might be a "Christopher Nolan wants to get this right" move. So if Nolan isn't getting the feel of the film, he's not going to let them just put it out there, especially if he's the one supervising.

It's better they take their time anyway. Do this right. Please don't involve a love child. I can't handle it. Not that I didn't like SUPERMAN RETURNS, but you know what I'm saying.

Hopefully they threw out that hack Goyer's script.

Something smells rotten in Metropolis

Casting news were coming in fast, with an update every couple of weeks. Now they might not start shooting for another year?
Sounds like a massive rewrite to me, which means plot and characters could change, and with that the casting and why not, the director himself.
For better or worse I don't think we will get the Man of Steel movie we thought we were getting.

Good move...quality over quantity...don't give us a barrage of superman shit...until you get it down pat...i wish more writer's and directors would do this.

Oh Dang It...

Who gives a rats ass. Superman blows Green Lantern.

(Damn, I wish I could slather this post in radioactive bacon...kind of like how anything that was 'Matrix' related had 0's and 1's)

I'd rather they take the extra time and really hit a homerun with this! It's been a long time since a Superman film really nailed it! (Superman II).

I like the winter release plan; as fun as the onslaught of comic movies can be, they don't stand out anymore, especially when everything comes out in the summer. I look forward to the awe of a lone and singular comic film - like it was when I was a kid.

Even if the movie is released in 2012, it can't compete with Marvel's The Avengers. Better take some time to do it right and please make Lex Luthor a secondary villain.

Makes sense

Next year is a big year for superhero films, they don't want to overload it. Take your time and bring us something great.

Hopefully this is a sign that Nolan is going to be more involved than he originally thought and knows that he'll need time to get to work after Batman 3 is over but can't start until then. I would think that someone like Nolan has the power to move a film like this back a year with little to no guff from the studio. As long as Nolan/Snyder get it right and don't deliver a Green Lantern-sized turd, then it's all good.

As long as they make it good, I don't care how long it takes.

We have Batman, Avengers, Spider-Man, and a few other big movies opening next summer whereas 2013 is wide open. My guess is they don't want it to get lost in the shuffle do to superhero fatigue from general audiences next year after all the Batman/Avengers hype. On the plus side it gives them more time to work on it, and hopefully deliver something truely super, man.

It would've been nice to have been able to see this in late 2012 when it was supposed to come out, as there's usually precious few movies of this type that come out around then.
But whatever--if we can just see Metallo, Braniac or Doomsday onscreen, I'll be stoked.

Ha, I'm sure David Goyer was 'let go' and they realized how much they had to fix...good for them for working on a hopefully better film!

These days it seems like some big movies are rushed to meet the release date determined by studios, and it shows in the quality. I'm all for pushing back the date so that those involved in the film can give us the best Superman film possible.

Why wouldn't you release Supes during the summer? Seems to make sense to me then winter.

Richard Donner's Superman was released during winter. I thought it was a smart choice since it wouldn't get lost with summer productions, but what do I know.

As much as I wanted 2012 just be the most epic year for movie fans, it's just to good to be true just like Darren Afronsky directing Wolverine

I knew next year will be too epic with five big superhero movies, so Superman had to bail.
