Seth McFarlane's Ted 2 gets a 2015 release date

10.02.2013by:

With the massive success of TED last year, we knew the sequel was coming, but now we know exactly when to expect TED 2. Universal will release the R-rated comedy right in the already jam-packed Summer 2015 season.

Seth McFarlane and Mark Wahlberg will reunite for the continued misadventures of a man and his talking stuffed bear with a potty mouth. No word on whether or not Mila Kunis will reprise her role as Wahlberg's girlfriend/fiance, but I would assume that will be worked on between now and then. There is also no mention of what the plot will be about.

The first TED opened to over $50 million on it's opening weekend and eventually $550 million worldwide. It boosted McFarlane's cult status from shows such as FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD to new heights and even helped get him the hosting gig for last year's Academy Awards. McFarlane is currently shooting A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST with Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, and Neil Patrick Harris for a May 20, 2014 release.

TED 2 will hit theaters on June 26, 2015.

Awesome

Ted was fucking hilarious. Story was a little cliche BUT everything else was genius.

I waited til last week, assuming the hype would kill it for me, and liked it way more than I thought.

The first one was average at best. There's much funnier films that have been release lately. Wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, if it had a better storyline and jokes.

Thank you. It seemed like everyone loved it but I was so disappointed. Average at best is really being nice.

Yeah. There was nothing great about the film at all.

I think it suffered from Seth MacFarlane given too much free rein to just be Seth MacFarlane. It definitely had its winning moments and I loved Giovanni Ribisi as the creepy villain, but too much of it was self-indulgent.

The sequel will be PG-13.

It will also co-star Dan Aykroyd as a new character named Big Bobby C (get it?), a billionaire entrepreneur who tries to market Ted plush toy clones as a Christmas fad, but they all end up having evil personalities (voiced by Michael Cera) and try to take over the world. It will be directed by James L. Brooks. If you think I'm wrong then you're wrong.
