Shatner in Trek?

Dec. 18, 2007by: James Thoo
100%
Shatner, Shatner, Shatner. I know that the two have nothing to do with each other, but the sequence of events saw me hear about his being upset at the snub he was dealt in regards the new STAR TREK flick, and then see him for no reason whatsoever in a World of Warcraft advert dressed as a Jedi or something. It just broke my heart a little, like he had to stoop to an advertisement campaign that also starred Mr. T. Still, there might be hope for ol' Bill yet, as Roberto Orci, the man who co-wrote the script for JJ Abrams' STAR TREK reboot, said that "it could happen... [however, the problems are twofold] One, from our point of view, we are still hoping to find a way. Secondly, one of the difficulties that was brought up and discussed with Shatner when we all met him and pitched him ideas is that Trek fans are sticklers for their canon. [And,] unfortunately, Shatner’s Captain Kirk was killed in Star Trek VII.” And I can kinda see his point. I wouldn't want to see Bruce Willis pop up as a waiter in DIE HARD 5. Still, the Shatman doesn't exactly look the spitting image of his old self, so it could work. And anything to keep the man out of Warcraft commercials...
Extra Tidbit: Shatner. I'd fight William Shatner.

HUH?

I'm finding it funny, cause, according to canon, Kirk is alive, due to Romulans re-animating his corpse after "Generations". There's a whole series of books, set during that time.

they need to divorce this movie from the franchise as it stands as much as possible because no one buys into but the already converted. they need to focus on making a good movie, not just a good star trek movie...there is a difference. shoehorning shatner in won't help matters so it's good news they're deliberating over the best possible manner to do it, it means they aim to please fans but not at the expense of the film's quality.

Excuse me?

Are you honestly telling me that in a fictional world where there have been alternate universes and people rising from the dead and noises in the vac of space that someone couldn't figure out a way to bring a character back into Star Trek?! Give me motherflippin break. Write the damn man into the flick and the fans can breathe easy. No Shatner = no me in the theater.

I hate 99% of all commericals of all mediums...

I hate commercials even though I do realize that they are what pay for everything, but nevertheless I despise them. Radio commericals- I flip the channel immediately, TV commercials- automatic mute, Billboards- don't look at them ever Website commercials yes even you JoBlo, and yours have gotten decidely more intrusive which frankly pisses me off. I used to click on them, but when a frieking movie trailer stars blaring through my speakers when I'm trying to read something, I'm gone. Anyway I

Anyway I liked the idea of Shatner's WOW commerical, too bad it wasn't good. But for those that think the Shat is gone, well just watch "Boston Legal" to see the old guy's still got it. ? It's on in 10 mins, and is probably the last original show (that has good writers that is) we are likely to see in 6 months minimum. Personally I don't give a flying anything if Shatner is in the new movie, I mean seriously it's a restart on the franchise, well let's keep that way huh? Does anyone else think that the frieking studios should just compromise already w/the writers so we will hopefully have some shows to watch in 2008? As of now it seems we will be watching (well I won't be) reruns and Reality Crap up the butt for the next year, yearsss? God that would blow hard.

He should of thought about it

He wanted to be killed off in Star Trek Generations... That was his choice. Bit late to start regretting that now. The only way I can see it happening is that this time travelling Spock rumour is true, and when Spock returns to his own time, the events that have occurred means Kirk is still with us in some way.

More Shat!!!

The Shat needs to be in the new Trek flick!
Suggestions:
A bloated old Klingon
A bloated old Romulan
A bloated old Vulcan
A bloated old Borg
Kirk's bloated rotting corpse

The Shat will hit the fan!!!

why can't he be kirk's relative?

I don't remember if this movie is going to have Captain Christopher Pike, or Captain Kirk. Either way, Shatner can be a fucking "Kirk", whether or not it's the James T. Kirk, or if it's William S. Kirk, his uncle or father or something.
Or, as previously mentioned, make him into some sort of alien like they did with Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), where almost every season of Star Trek: TNG she was a different character, or a new version of her former self.

Cameo him

Shatner obviously wants in, so you let Captain motherfucking Kirk in the movie, OK? Dress him up so you can barely recognize him as an alien or something and poof, problem solved. No, he can't be Kirk in the movie, but they can find a place for him. After all, they managed to cram most of the original Brady's into the Brady Bunch movie. This is basically the same thing.

I was never a big Star Trek fan (though I did watch and love Shatner in the first season of Boston Legal), but I am aware of his death, which really is unfortunate. Aside from being the sort of guy who delivered lines so famously deadpan that he will forever be remembered (not to mention his infamous "Rocket Man"), he's still iconic enough to be due the opportunity of a cameo here.

Oh well, we can always imagine what could have been over here:
