SHERLOCK may not be returning to the airwaves until just about a year from now, but showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are already teasing fans with the possible plots for the trilogy of episodes of the third series.

Moffat posted on Twitter today and again at the Edinburgh TV Festival that the three words for fans to slobber over are as follows: Rat, Wedding, Bow.

The good fellows over at Collider went ahead and did the legwork for us and found the likely source stories will be The Giant Rat of Sumatra, The Noble Bachelor, and His Last Bow. In keeping with the first two seasons, the stories will likely only share a basic connection with the original story and then venture into an entirely new adventure for Holmes and Watson.

I cannot speak highly enough of how fantastic SHERLOCK is. Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are beginning the upward climb to superstardom thanks to the show. Both will appear in the upcoming HOBBIT movies and Cumberbatch will star in JJ Abrams STAR TREK 2 next year.

If you have not seen SHERLOCK yet, you owe it to yourself to get caught up with one of the best shows on television in the world. I would say the quality rivals many movies that are released in theaters. Top notch acting and writing that makes the Guy Ritchie SHERLOCK HOLMES series look lame.

I'm not intimately familiar with the Conan Doyle stories themselves but I love the TV shows that riff on the idea of Sherlock Holmes... House MD being a particularly good example. Moffat's take on Sherlock Holmes is absolutely brilliant and if you haven't seen it I cannot recommend it highly enough. Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock makes Robert Downey Jr's version look like a semi-retarded inside-out spider monkey. And I love me some Downey Jr.

Great TV!

Cumberbatch and Freeman are excellent - worth watching just for them. My only problems are the writing can get a bit ridiculous/stupid at times, and obviously 3 episodes are not enough. The same can be said for Luther with Idris Elba - another great show.

Any time anyone asks me whether or not the new Dr. Who is any good, I just mention Steven Moffat's the showrunner for both Dr. Who and Sherlock. They get the point almost immediately.

Cannot freakin' WAIT for more Sherlock!

Damn it!!

I'm getting really REALLY restless and impatient here waiting for the third season, and its STILL over an year from returning! I'm just saying, making only 3 episodes per season and make the fans wait for almost 2 years in between is just cruel man, just plain CRUEL!

Okay alright, emotions in check, if this is what it takes to bring the end results like they're, I'm willing to wait for as long as needed. Just make them coming for like 10 season or so.

those Brits...

...they sure know how to make one heck of a quality show. Perfect casting, well-above average plot, amazing chemistry, great writing, and (mostly) true to the original source material. Plus, keeping each season to three hour-and-a-half episodes keeps it fresh. Watching an entire season is like watching an extremely well thought out movie. I thought Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock movies were good...this show blows that out of the water in terms of pure quality. Absolutely looking forward to the

:)

I'm anticipating SHERLOCK more than any film coming out in the next year.

Film? Are you confusing this with the superior movie starring Downey Jr. and Law? Good show, but the chemistry between Downey and Law cannot be matched

@ShonK: The Downey/Law movies are "ok", but I can not agree with you. The TV show Sherlock is, as Alex called it "one of the best shows on television in the world."

I agree with swindle1977....though I'd put one of the 17 Hobbit films on my list of "anticipated", but otherwise I'm mostly looking forward to Sherlock getting back on the air.
