Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows gets a couple of ugly new posters!

07.11.2011

Hey, look! A major Hollywood picture, likely boasting a very large marketing budget, churns out a couple of butt-ugly one sheets! I am shocked.

Yes, terribly Photoshopped posters have sadly become the norm in this business, and these new ones for SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS are no exception. We are, however, given our first small glimpse of Jared Harris ("Mad Men") as iconic villain Moriarty. So that's good. I guess.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS - directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jared Harris, Noomi Rapace, and Stephen Fry - opens December 16th.

Synopsis: Guy Ritchie helms a new action-packed adventure, following the world's most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.), and his longtime trusted associate, Dr. Watson (Jude Law), as they match wits with their arch-nemesis, the criminal genius Moriarty (Jared Harris).

I have to agree with the people

These aren't the greatest posters ever but their not "butt ugly" by any means. They make it sound like their on the same page as that taylor lauter movie abstruction.

Really JoBlo, REALLY? These are some pretty great looking posters compared to over 75% of the crap we see today. And most all posters are [link] can't capture the glamorous images they want to advertize films with.

looks like most people agree

these posters are actually pretty cool George.

Not amazing, but they're cool -- and I see absolutely nothing wrong or generic with that subtitle, especially when you look at movies titles like The Dark Knight Rises and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, but maybe that's just me.

the only thing I really don't like about these posters are the super-colour on the eyes.

Well, RDJ and Jude do look a couple of Clinique counter girls at the mall, what with their poreless, waxy finish, but they're ok. Pretty uninspired. I want a better look at Noomi. She looks like she's going to make an awesome gypsy.

I loved these! The only thing that sticks out like a college kid job are the Word Art fonts. By god, get rid of it.

Are we seeing the same posters?

These posters aren't that bad, George. Granted they aren't fantastic, but there are far worse posters out there. Either that, or my view of posters has been tainted with such awful renditions over the years that I'm actually thankful whenever something halfway decent shows up.

I would have preferred my first look at Moriarty to not be a distant shot that makes him almost interchangeable with the monopoly man, but so be it.
The photoshop isn't amazing, but it's not that bad.

I think they're pretty neat, not at all terrible. I like the subtitle too, only thing I'm worried about are the writers and whether they have what it takes to write a good movie.

I think the Jude Law one is pretty cool! Downey's one looks a bit forced though!

I don't think these are over photoshopped at all. It's bad when the face looks like plastic (see any RomCom poster). These still have pores and details, and I'd argue they're framed uniquely, as well. Also disagree with the "generic title" bit. Good news in my book, annoying post.

They're not THAT bad. There are definitely crappier posters out there...
We're coming to the point when it's more surprising when a fantastic/creative poster comes out
