Shrek 4 set for 2010

08.02.2007

I thought the Warner Bros. announcement of WATCHMEN's 2009 release date was looking pretty far into the future but today DreamWorks announced a date three years away. The studio has already locked in May 10, 2010 for SHREK 4, which is currently in pre-production. It'll be interesting to see if the kids that liked the first couple SHREKs because they were younger will still return for a fourth now that they're in their late teens. Of course, there are plenty of adults that seem to enjoy the SHREK movies so what do I know? Nothing is known about SHREK 4 other than Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy will all be reprising their voiceover roles as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey. Here's hoping that Pinocchio gets a return because he's always been one of the my favorites too. So basically the DreamWorks animation slate looks something like this: BEE MOVIE in November; KUNG FU PANDA and MADAGASCAR 2 in 2008; MONSTERS VS. ALIENS in 2009; and SHREK 4 in 2010. Expect two more releases - fall entries for both 2009 and 2010 - to eventually be announced. At the current time it looks like those could be CROOD AWAKENING (the Aardman film left behind at DreamWorks) and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON.

Extra Tidbit: DreamWorks has previously said that a SHREK 5 is also in the planning stages.

Yeah, Dreamworks is totally milking the SHREK franchise out. Aren't people tired of it? And MADAGASCAR 2?!! That was one of the worst movies I've seen!!!

Milkage at it's best...

They really are milking the franchise dry aren't they.

I knew shrek 3 was going to suck and refused to take my wife to watch it (bad husband and all), and instead even went as far as downloading it so she could see it - nag nag nag!

Anyways, when the film was done I felt I had acheived an "I told you so" moment, I could sense she knew it so didn't bloat about it too much :)

Anyways, 1 was ok, 2 was as good - i laughed more than 1, 3 stunk and I'm sure the wife won't insist on watching

Shrek 5 . . .

. . . is confirmed. There's also a Shrek the Musical (coming to Broadway next year) plus a Shrek the Halls holiday special, airing on ABC in December.

After the first Shrek all of the movies have been horrible. They only perpetuate all the crap in pop culture and tell little kids about starbucks and burger king. I remember when I watched Ducktales and learned about inflation (didn't know it then obviously but got the idea). Now I didn't see the third one but heard it was worse than the second. The second seemed like it was just looking to fill time with aesthetic pop-culture jokes instead of developing good and interesting
