Silent Hill 3D sequel brings back Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger

Mar. 15, 2011by: Dave Davis

When we heard about the 3D sequel to SILENT HILL last week, it seemed like it might be a sequel in name only, since none of the original cast was announced.

Fear not! (Well, not until you see the movie.) Following up the casting of new faces Adelaide Clemens (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) and Kit Harington (HBO’s upcoming "Game of Thrones") in SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D comes word that SILENT HILL actors Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger will also be paying another visit to the perpetually misty town of terror.

The first SILENT HILL (based on Konami's videogame series) featured Mitchell and Bean as parents desperately (and separately) searching for their daughter, who is lost in the titular otherworldly creeptown. Unger played a deranged resident whose own child was sacrificed by the lunatic townsfolk.

The sequel is currently in production in Toronto with Michael J. Bassett (SOLOMON KANE) directing -- the snap above is from the new movie. The synopsis: "For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

Extra Tidbit: The eighth SILENT HILL game, subtitled DOWNPOUR, is due for release in the Fall.

I guess this is good news for the film, although I don't understand how they will return. The ending for the first film left us fairly ambiguous, but made it pretty clear as well that her character was pretty screwed. But I am holding judgement over the whole thing until there is at least a trailer. I don't anticipate this will be a great film, but as a fan of both the series and the first film, I'll be seeing it.

I'm I the only person who thinks Radha Mitchell is absolutely gorgeous? Anyway, I'm glad she's going to be in the sequel.

Fucking 3D

Don't let the red box fool you, I'm definietely looking forward to this sequel. For all its flaws, I really enjoyed the first Silent Hill. But 3D? Really? I can't see how that would contribute much to a movie like silent hill. In both the game and movie, the horror is more attributed to atmosphere and storyline than pop ups and imagery. Although, the imagery is still scary. I just confused myself.

Silent hill is probably one of the better Video Game adaptations. That being said it still was not perfect, the acting was so-so. But i did like how they captured the atmosphere of the game and packed tons of religious symbolism into it for a nice unique touch.

What worries me is that they slapped the "3-D" tag on the end of the title. This usually means bad news.

I'm iffy so im not making up my mind until the trailer.

I thought this day would never come. A lot of folks have been waiting since 2006 for a sequel. I had given up in 2009 when I heard the sequel wasn't happening. But now, not only are we getting another Silent Hill, Radha and Bean are returning... Like Red4 said, "Fuck Yes!"

Wait what?

So Heather Mason (and presumably Harry Mason) will be in this sequel as well as the characters from the frist movie? How the fuck is that going to work/make sense.

In the first game Harry Mason is the protagonist and he gets into an accident and searches Silent Hill for his daughter Claire. The third game is Heather (who is the baby Harry leaves with at the end of the first game) finding out about Silent Hill and having to go there to stop what was only postponed 18 years earlier when Harry

But now they changed so much of the first movie from the first game that i have no idea how this is going to actually work for this next movie!

Adapt Silent Hill 2 already!

FUCK YES!!!

The first movie was solid on its own. I don't care that it didn't follow the games very closely. It was just a really good movie. Easily one of my all time Top 10 favorite movies. I wish for the sequel to be as good, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. If the sequel sucks, I'll quietly step away. If it's good, I will lose my mind.

WOW!

That's such an awesome surprise!

I really dug the first Silent Hill movie and from what I've been hearing about this one, it looks extremely promising. I'm so happy they're adapting Silent Hill 3 (quite possibly the scariest one of all in my opinion). Oh, and Harry Mason is in this! Schweet!

Silent Hill proved that you can make a great video game adaptation, I can't wait until the sequel.

Yes!

If they can keep the look but bring a nice story with this, it will be a great video game.

Looking forward to it

The first Silent Hill was surprisingly one of the better and most underrated adaptation of a video game I've ever seen.

Let's hope the sequel stands up to it.

Would like to see this do well. Having the original cast return is a positive.

Damn, not only is she cast, they're already filming? I didn't realize the movie was that deep into production yet.

I hope the sequel keeps the tone, atmosphere and visuals of the first movie while improving upon the rather weak story it presented. Big fan of the games, hope this is worthwhile.
