Silent Hill Revelation gets a synopsis and flaming photos

04.18.2011

I'm not quite sure how this happened, but I often hear SILENT HILL brought up as either A) the way to do a video game movie right or B) the scourge of all non-Uwe Boll video game movies. I lean more toward camp A, as I did think for all its faults, the setting was suitably spooky.

The series might be no RESIDENT EVIL in terms of endless sequel potential, but it is at least getting one with SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D. The original cast is returning, joined by a few fresh faces (Carrie -Anne Moss? OK), and now we have our first plot description with some photos to go along with it. Yes, Pyramid Head does make a cameo.

"Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on the acclaimed survival horror videogame franchise by KONAMI and is the sequel to Hadida and Carmody's earlier Silent Hill directed by Christophe Gans. For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

Looks more like Rob Zombie than Silent Hill...

Extra Tidbit: I just found that out a few weeks ago. I also read once (just before the first movie came out) that the atmosphere was inspired by Jacob's Ladder, which is the reason I promptly bought it. Never heard anyone mention that afterwards.

Yeah, the first one has a few issues, but it's damn creepy, and looks great, and took a few risks, making it absolutely worth watching (and in my opinion, the best videogame-to-film yet), so I am all for this sequel.

The problem with the first one was that there were TOO MANY PEOPLE.

The maximum cast of Silent Hill should be around four, and they should never be in a room together. The games are about isolation and inner-turmoil writ large, not witch-burnings and crazy monsters with fifty people to help out.

Plus, and I beg on this one: stop trying to explain everything. Silent Hill shouldn't have an "origin" or a reason for its wackiness. That's why it's horrifying.

EPIC.

Pyramid head FTW. :) YAY. This movie is going to own. Is that little girl who played in the first one playing in this too.

So, Pyramid Head inexplicably shows up here too? Hmmm, I don't know about that one. But I am glad to see the sequel moving along. I hold no judgement over it right now, as they are playing with a series I love very much. The first film was pretty good as far as a video game adaptation goes, but I mostly attribute that to Gans passion for Silent Hill. Not as sure that's true here. I can't imagine how the original cast will return in this film, but I will give it a shot.

The first Silent Hill is my favorite horror film and I love the video game series (this seems to be based on SH3 which has me excited). I look forward to this!

Silent Hill 3 is by far my favorite of the games, so I'm excited too.

I like the first

now thats not to say it didnt have its issues, but I thought the mood was right, it was a hard R and the horn that blew to signal darkness was coming (and death) was chilling, but the endig left many unanswered questions, so I am curious.

My friends and I all freaked out a little in the theater every time that horn sounded. It was a fun experience.
