Silverman hosts MTV awards

It’s been announced that Sarah Silverman is hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Normally, that would get me to tune in and catch her sure-to-be hilarious monologue, but I mean really, I’ll just head over to Youtube the next day and check it there. Poor TV execs, the battle is lost.

Silverman is sure to invigorate some much needed life and edge into an awards show that’s been stale in recent years, with hosts like Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan. Those ladies should be go-go dancing in cages on stage, not delivering the opening monologue. In case you’re not familiar with her work, Silverman’s had bit parts in SCHOOL OF ROCK and SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS, but where she really shines is performing her own material, like in her concert film JESUS IS MAGIC.

Here’s what she had to say about landing the gig: “The other day I sat down too hard and sprained my labia majora. I’m okay, but I took it as a sign from God to host the MTV Movie Awards.” Want more? Silverman tells the AP: “Ever since I was a little girl, before it even started in 1980 — MTV — I said, `Someday, I want there to be an all-music channel that gives out awards for movies. And I want to host that show.”

So there you have it. Proof that Silverman’s got the chops. And if that weren’t enough, this year’s ceremony will be aired live, as opposed to years past, meaning those censors best be ready, because Silverman is looking to rip shit.
