Simon Pegg contributed more to Star Wars: The Force Awakens than we thought

Unabashed Star Wars fan Simon Pegg has already lived out a life-long desire common to many of us, he's appeared in a Star Wars film; that lucky bugger. However his contributions to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS consisted of a lot more than that simple appearance; J.J. Abrams spoke with Entertainment Weekly and revealed that Simon Pegg would drop by the set as often as could and served as a sounding board for Abrams to bounce ideas off of.

He was a wonderful partner in crime to kick the story around and ask questions and come up with ideas, and he was an incredibly helpful part of the process for all of us. I’m very grateful. He would drop by the set because he wanted to, and when he could, he would help… We could talk about things, and he was a perfect combination of incredibly smart screenwriter, fan of the series, critical fan of the series, and friend of mine – but not just blindly supportive. He was an honest, critical friend. And he wasn’t so close to it that he became immune to things. He would come in with fresh eyes and very smart ideas. He’s one of a handful of people along the way that has been really priceless.

As a friend of Abrams and as a fan of the series, Pegg definitely has a lot to bring to the Star Wars table but more importantly, as J.J mentions, Pegg could also be honest and critical when it called for it instead of being just another "yes man." J.J. Abrams also addressed the frequent rumour that Daniel Craig will be making his own cameo appearance in the film by saying, "I’ve been asked to say nothing by Her Majesty’s Secret Service." Nice dodge.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens on December 18, 2015.

Simon Pegg has helped write the script for some great movies

and he's clearly a major STAR WARS fan so I trust his instincts. This is another example of why I'm expecting to have my mind blown on December 18th.

Pegg's recent reveal of his personal Star Wars rankings (5, 4, 6, 3, 1, 2 I believe) is MORE than enough to convince me that he's qualified to have a say in this movie. Add on all the other cred he has as a screenwriter and general storyteller, and this just makes me even more excited for this movie. Bring it!

Great. Simon Pegg is a smart man and a great writer. The more of that involved in Star Wars, the better.

Love Simon Pegg

but he is not the be all end all of Star Wars information and opinions. I've heard him say some ignorant things about both the prequels and the originals. Just because he says something is a good or bad idea doesn't necessarily mean it is or isn't. Just because he is a nerd celeb. Doesn't mean we should all just bowdown to his "infinite wisdom". He has after all made some bad movies too.

I think you are looking in to this deeper than you should. No one said he is the end all be all SW "go to" guy, just that Abrams respects Pegg's ideas as a writer, as an actor and a friend. No where does it say "He's a godsend that saved our movie". Like any fan, being critical of what you enjoy, the good and the bad, is more important than just liking everything without question.
As a Transformers fan, as much as I enjoy the 4 movies, they could be a LOT better. I don't like nor dislike

As a Transformers fan, as much as I enjoy the 4 movies, they could be a LOT better. I don't like nor dislike Michael Bay and I would have preferred a fresh take on the series with a new director for TF5, and as a fan of the movies and Transformers in general I can and SHOULD be critical of them.
Pegg can find faults in EP5 and still love the movie. Personally I am a Jedi fan then Ep4 then Ep5 and I tolerate the prequels on a certain level. I love the prequels as an origin for Obi-wan and that's the good I take from it.
Doesn't make me an expert or anything, but I'm also not a writer nor know anything about Hollywood like Pegg does. Pegg is helping a friend with sharing ideas, but that doesn't mean he's saving this film from failure or anything.

Pegg is definitely a huge fan of Star Wars. I'm glad he could be of help.
