Simon Pegg wants to write another movie with Edgar Wright before Star Trek sequel

Jun. 9, 2011by: Niki Stephens

After an interview with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the DVD/Blu-Ray release of PAUL, Ain't It Cool News got to talking about the third film in the Three Flavors Cornetto. There's not a ton of detail, but Pegg does talk about how he wants to bang a script out rather soon with buddy/partner Edgar Wright.

Currently the working title for the third film is still, THE WORLD'S END. Check out what Pegg had to say:

Mr. Beaks: How much do you consider your audience and what they expect from you. Is there a... I don't want to say "burden", but are there expectations you have to tend to?

Pegg: Yeah, and I hope we sort of confound it in a way. I wouldn't want to become predictable or be the guys who do that. The next thing that we do will hopefully be... you know, in writing our new thing, Edgar and me have been very determined - that we're going to start in earnest very, very soon - to not just do the same thing again, to do something very different. Not to the point of alienating people who want something, but just give people something new and something different. You can't just stay where you are forever. You have to mutate to survive, and I think we're going to make sure that we do that. I'd hate to become stale and predictable. People are already making films that are kind of like the sort of thing we might do. I want to stay a little bit ahead of the curve at least."

Beaks: You said "very soon". Can you say how soon?

Pegg: We already started the conception process, so it's just a question of when we can get together. I'm just about to start shooting a movie here in the UK, so maybe between that and STAR TREK we might get a chance to bang out a first draft if we're lucky.

Extra Tidbit: How many people here liked PAUL? I thought it was freaking hilarious.

I loved Paul

Sure it wasn't Shaun/Fuzz levels of hilarious, but in fairness what films are? It was great fun and the audience I was with seem to dig it.

Love these guys.

Man I really wish Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy hadn't already been made into that so-so movie, so that these guys could do it.

Paul was OK

I didn't laugh as much as I have at Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz but I did enjoy Paul.

It was ok, some good laughs and film references, but i was expecting it to be on par with Shaun & Fuzz. Can't wait to see Pegg/Frost/Wright next movie.

Paul was awesome if only for the fact that the characters freely admitted to being Atheists.

Pegg is amazing.

I enjoyed Paul. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost still make a winning team in my opinion.

Awesome. Those three guys have a way of producing exponentially better stuff when they're together. I also hope they "evolve" the way that Fuzz evolved from Shaun; I'd hate to see their brilliant style left behind in any way.

I fell asleep during Paul. Too generic and not enough of the classic Pegg Frost dynamic. Edgar Wright would have lived up the proceedings considerably.

Fuck yeah! Do it!

FYI, Paul was written by Pegg/Frost, not Pegg/Wright.

Something tells me that "The World's End", may be there best flick yet with one another.

I still have a hard time deciding which flick, "Shaun of the Dead" or "Hot Fuzz" is the funnier film.

I have a hard time seeing star trek making its June 29, 2012 release date if they don't start shooting like tomorrow. My guess is that will be postponed until 2013.

Paul blew!

The jokes were there. The acting was there. But I've never seen a movie so poorly directed. Paul would've been great it if had a director who actually got the humor. The movie was poorly edited and the punch lines were ruined with bad pacing. It could've been one of the best with a director like wright. Just a waste of a brilliant script
