Sin City 2 takes one step closer to actually happening, hires Oscar-winning writer

Aug. 29, 2011by: Mike Sampson

I always just assumed that SIN CITY 2 would be one of those projects like GHOSTBUSTERS 3 that we talk about some vague notion of progress on perpetually but nothing actually happens with. But woudln't you know it, there's some actual news to report regarding SIN CITY 2.

William Monahan, who won an Oscar for THE DEPARTED, has been brought on to rewrite a script written by series creator Frank Miller. It's still unclear what SIN CITY 2 would be about or what characters would return but Angelina Jolie has repeatedly stated her interest in a starring role as Ava, should the story follow the "A Dame to Kill For" storyline. Should that actually be the planned storyline, Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen would be involved.

Director Robert Rodriguez told MTV earlier this month that SIN CITY 2 had to "shoot this year," but whether that is some deadline set by Dimension or just the guy's own internal clock ticking remains to be seen.

We've been writing about SIN CITY 2 since 2005, back when the hot rumor was Rodriguez would shoot SIN CITY and THE MUMMY 3 back-to-back. Whether it actually happens this time around (and whether anyone still cares) remains to be seen.

cant understand how...

a project like this could take so long, when the first one did reall well at the Box Office was a critical smash, it was a win win and doing a sequle should have been a no brainer that was fast tracked, instead we get like 3 sequels to the Final destination since its release.

And I would rather see this sequel get made before 'Machete 2' and Machete 3'.

I definitely still care but I have a feeling that they won't be able to reiterate the magic of the 1st one.

Why do they need a writer, an oscar winning one even, when everything from Sin City was already written by Frank Miller. What's left to write?

probably cuz the script frank miller wrote sucked. you need dialogue to fill the film. and im sure frank millers dialogue isnt great. they also said 2 of the stories in sin 2 are original and have never been told in the graphic novels.... that's why they need a great writer!

In the time since Sin City, Rodriguez and Miller have only spawned a few gems. But we've gotten a lot of crap like Shorts, Spy Kids 4, and The Spirit. It's about time they deliver Sin City 2, we deserve it.

What gems post Sin City? Grindhouse was pretty lame, but maybe I'll let Predators slide in on Rodriguez producing, wouldn't call it a gem though.

This is a movie that should have been made a couple of years ago while the original was still in everyone's mind. But I am glad to read that production on the sequel is starting to roll. I hope Clive Owen returns again as Dwight. He was my favorite character from the first.

Sure, Robert. I'll believe it when I see a trailer. Or better yet, the final released product. Assuming you don't take on 200 projects beforehand, which I'm sure you will, and delay this yet again. You wanna continue Sin City? I'm all for it, and I'm sure lots of others are, too. Stop keeping us in suspense. You're either making this movie or you're not. Shit, through playing with you.

Hell and Back

...which, coincidentally, is where the development for this film has been for the last six years. Wasn't Rodriguez also rumoured to film 2 Sin City sequels at the same time, with Hell and Back as the third and Depp starring as Wallace?
Anyway, sounds hopeful, but I'll believe it when I see new shots of Rosario Dawson in fishnets and heels and of Owen and Rourke crackin' skulls. As for Ava Lord, yeah, Jolie is still my pick. At least you can count on her to get her gear off, unlike Alba the

It's not good, it's not bad, it's just unneeded.

Though I would like to see a sultry Jolie again.
