Singer back on X-Men?

Oct. 12, 2009by: Tony Lang

   Singer'g da eye...

Is Fox done with the little grudge they held over Bryan Singer defecting to WB for SUPERMAN RETURNS? Apparently so, 'cause he's been having lunch over there lately...

Singer appeared on a panel at this week-end's Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea where he confessed he'd like to make amends for letting Brett Ratner take over. Well, he didn't say it in those words, but, you know, he should...

"I'm still looking to possibly returning to the 'X-Men' franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it," he actually said. "I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast." Well, who doesn't love Hugh Jackman? The guy can sing and dance and tear you three new ones in a single swing!

Singer already has a bunch of genre films he got attached to recently, the latest being JACK THE GIANT KILLER and EXCALIBUR, but smart money says if Fox ever stopped being cry-babies, they might want to put this one on top of their pile. Who's up for it?

Extra Tidbit: I'd be just as happy to see what one of Hollywood's new talents would do with that franchise; someone like Duncan Jones or Troy Nixey.

I for one...

would love to see the house of X repaired...and as far as there being "no place to go"...(and I am not defending Ratner's story arc)...but Xavier out of his body is a PERFECT segway to a fight on the Astral Plane against The Shadow King (featuring Psylocke), and a rescue of Jean (who's job it is to die)...as far as Cyclopes...comic book characters "die" all the time, so they can make it work...

Bring Him Back

Fox grudge? Singer stabbed THEM in the back and paid for it. The AWFUL Superman Returns was justifiably bashed by all. Let's forgive and forget and give him X-Men: First Class. He'd do exceptionally well with that concept!

I'd like someone to make amends for Brett Ratner making movies AT ALL.

Superman Sucks, Is All

Don't blame the failure of Superman on Singer! He did what he could with an ANCIENT franchise. God let him come back to X-Men.

As long as he drops that goddamn Freshman year X-Men script and brings something new this should make up for X3.

Hell Fucking Yes!!!

This is the best news ever! I can't believe it, it seemed like a long shot but this sounds like it might happen, Bryan Singer returning to direct the X-MEN franchise; FOX should have never replaced him, the only reason he left was because FOX took too long to ask him back for X3 so he figured he'd take the deal WB was offering him.

I really hope he get's to do the Phoenix like he intended to, I'd like to see Mr. Sinister, Emma Frost and the Inner Circle and ofcourse Apocalypse and the

no where to go

Listen i'll give you that X3 was a big step backwards, but there is always places for these characters to go, i mean there's the Age of Apocalypse story line, I mean worst comes to worst we could watch them fight a brotherhood, yeah xavier is in a nother body but that doesn't mean we can't move on without him, hell Mr. Sinister could be a good storyline, read the comics, there's always places to go, and while i enjoyed supes i think singer was the wrong director to tackle it, i mean he's a

If he goes back awesome but if not oh well

I hope this would be for X-men 4 and not another origin film, although I'm not sure how they can rework the story given everything that happened in The last stand.

I too think singer is overrated. Superman Returns was absolutely awful and he brought absolutely nothing new to the franchise, which had been dead for years.

People need to stop bitchin' about Superman Returns. It was a very well made movie. I love it.
As for Singer returning to the X-Men franchise, i would love to see it but how can the story continue without some of the main characters?? Jean's dead, Xavier transformed into another body (so they'll need a different actor). The only one who could still be alive is Cyclops. We never DID see what happened to him exactly.
Oh, and Beast needs a cooler look.

the movie sucked. Nobody is bitching about it, just stating a fact. It was long, boring, predictable, and just plain bad.

Ehhhh

Too little too late? I mean...there's literally know where to go with the story the way Last Stand ended. And him doing First Class would seem a little silly now wouldn't it, what with him being the director who brought us this first series?

I'm for just ignoring the X-men franchise for 8 years or so and then doing a serious reboot. Singer could maybe be involved then, but I'd prefer a fresher take on the material...

All I Want...

is to see him return and do another "X-Men" movie that INVOLVES SENTINELS this time. How kick ass of a battle would that be on th big screen. I want to see Wolverine and Gambit smash some Sentinel Ass in the next "X-Men" movie. I really, really hope he makes another one.

Good news but, is the genre repairable without entirely starting again? They've already killed off Xavier and Cyclops, and you can't really have the Xmen without them. I think everyone would love to see Nightcrawler again though, and Gambit done properly.

Who's all for Singer doing a real X3, and having the first scene being Wolverine waking up from a bad dream, and thos dreams being The Last Stand and Origins.

I'm totally up for it...

FOX made a serious mistake (no, they seriously fucked up) to move on with the "X-Men" franchise without Bryan Singer. And the godawful X3 proved what a terrible mistake it was.

Bringing Singer back is exactly what this franchise, which is looking very ill at the moment, needs in order to rejuvenate it.

His X-Men movies were better than The Last Stand, but that's like saying being kicked up the ass is being better than being kicked in the nuts. You're still being kicked. I didn't rate the first X-Men movie that much, the second was better, but still - these characters have a way better movie in them than anything we've seen so far.

They should let him return, then he should ignore the existence of Last Stand and do a real X-Men 3.
