Singer on Magneto?

Jun. 1, 2009by: Omar Aviles

Bryan Singer In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, Bryan Singer waxes nostalgic about his decision to direct SUPERMAN RETURNS rather than the third installment in the X-MEN franchise. He mentions "I'm eternally intertwined with X-Men now. What takes an audience four hours to watch - the first two movies - took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it...It's a shame." And with that nostalgia comes a slight inkling towards directing the upcoming X-MEN ORIGINS: MAGNETO prequel. The only thing keeping him back is the inevitable continued immersion in World War II era Jewish genocide, which he's touched on in several films now. Says Singer: "The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto's history in the concentration camp, then I've lived in that world...Apt Pupil, X-Men and now Valkyrie...I've lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break before I do something like that." Which is understandable, of course, considering he's Jewish, but many a fanboy would certainly like to see him get back into that world.

im down

singer was the best x-men director, he needs to direct another one, but an origins one? the origins movies feel like straight to dvd's to exploit the franchise, singer should prolly direct x-men first class before magneto, imo

Singer's involvement would definitely get me pumped to see this. But I would still prefer him to direct Man of Steel.

Singer should direct the wolverine sequel. The Last Stand and X-men Origins were embarrassing. The franchise needs its dignity back!

"I think hes too good of a director to be doing all these comic movies."

And Christopher Nolan and Jon Favreau aren't? I mean I can understand someone saying something like this five or ten years ago. However, we've gotten to where Oscar calibur directors are actively seeking out these projects (i.e. Kenneth Brannagh and Sam Mendes). If they don't feel that these sorts of films are beneath them then I don't get any we should.

I do agree with Jimmyfive, though. I'd rather see him direct

I would really love to see him come back and rock the shit out of a new Supes movie. I honestly dug RETURNS. Commence rock throwing now.

Brian Singer is a one-note director.

It's impossible for the guy to not make something with the subtext of being gay, or jewish, or being an outsider. It might of worked decently in X-Men, but he over did it in Superman Returns, having Superman floating above the Earth, "Im so alone."

Bryan Singer a one-note director?

Sure, if you think The Usual Suspects is just like House M.D. is just like X2 is just like Valkyrie . . .

Since he already did the whole nazi concentration camp thing in the first one, why the hell would he do it again and risk contradiction???
Cant he pick up directly after that?

I'm with you dude! returns was the shit. I saw it in theatres with a date and we snuck into the theatre next to us just to see the ending again. Loved it.

I'd also love to see Singer get around to Logans Run...

I really couldn't care less if a Magneto origins movie gets made, regardless of who is going to direct it. Magneto is one of the most boring characters from X-Men in my opinion. Instead of making a Magneto movie, I would much rather see either a new sequel to the original trilogy that's directed by Singer or an origins movie revolving around a mutant other than Magneto (I'm talking in addition to the Deadpool movie since that one is already a go). I truely believe a movie revolving around

I truely believe a movie revolving around Gambit could be could be great with the right story. I remember a storyline about Gambit dealing with the Thieve's Guild and the Assassins' Guild that I think would work perfectly as a movie. But that's just me.

Go Gambit Go!

I agree with Tracii below: a Gambit origins flick would be a lot more interesting at this point.

You def bring up a good point but favreu has done onlyone working on a second. Nolans done 2 and might not even wanna do a third. this would make 4 for singer. Im just saying a saw valkyrie the other night and loved it. and would hate to see his follow up be xmen orgin bs. at least direct another superman dont leave the franchise to die too.

singer should stay away from comic movies

I don't know why this guy is mentioned when it comes to comic films. X-men was bad, X2 was great and Superman returns was a fan film with a 250 million budget

Being lonely (theme from Superman) or hated and considered as someone sick that must either die or be cured (X-Men) is something I can relate to. And being gay, it's nice to find something to relate to in mainstream comic-book adaptations, which are mainly targeted towards young hetero guys with thirst for action, boobs and women in tights. Nothing wrong with that. But we (gays) do love comics too, and it would be nice to be able to relate to some of the themes in the movies on a personal level

With all due respect.

Magneto? C'mon....

...how about Nightcrawler? Colossus? Gambit? The Original 5? Juggernaut? Excaliber? X-Force? Is there really no one more interesting to consider than Mags?

1) Cast a bunch of unknown teens/early twens as Scott, Jean, Warren, Bobby and Hank...

2) Bring back Pat Stewart as Xavier...

3) Find someone other than Singer to direct.

4) Keep Mags on that park bench, fer cryin' out loud.
