Filmmaker Bryan Singer has already brought us his vision of the X-MEN and SUPERMAN, but now it's time for a new crew of superheroes. Sadly, they're not anyone you've heard of before.

Singer won't be getting into the director's chair, but he's planning to produce a new Warner Bros. movie called CAPESHOOTERS. The story, to be penned by hot scribes J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani, "follows two down-on-their-luck slackers who specialize in shooting videos of superheroes. They find themselves on the run when they uncover evidence that a legendary superhero actually is evil. The story is based on an upcoming graphic novel by Rob Liefeld." (Note: artwork here is from some other terrible Rob Liefeld book involving, it would seem, a raygun-toting midget.)

Just to clarify: Warner Bros., who has the entire stable of DC Comics characters at their disposal, instead appears to be prioritizing a movie based on a yet-to-be (if ever) published book by one of the most reviled comic creators in the past two decades, an "artist" who loves pouches and shoulder pads but hates feet (and who clearly has a good agent).

Enjoy the karmic tradeoff for THE DARK KNIGHT.

gotto agree with this .. i've known liefield's artwork since the 90s .. and it's always been characterised by the countless lines and the weird shape on a person's body .

either way, doesnt matter coz i'm still reminded of Singer's shitty superman movie.

so i;'' be giving this movie a miss.

Their first script was on last year's "Black List" of hot unproduced screenplays, and has since been set up at Sony. They're at WMA and have been courted for a number of projects since then. Surprised your agent friends didn't know the names. I guess that's what you have me for.

Well
I'm just saying that I'm generally in the loop on these things and couldn't find anything on them. And no I didn't check IMDB. I asked around. I have two agent friends in LA and neither of them knew who these two guys were. And they're pretty well versed in anything and everything movie-wise so I was confused as to who these Lavin and Damiani are.

Hilarious link!..
I agree this sounds like a waste of Singer's time & talents..I would love to see him make the next X-film still, however..

RE: Liefeld, I think there was a time when it dawned on all of us comic fans that this hot-shot artist Liefeld fucking sucked.

Most rising or high-paid writers are sought after in Hollywood because of material they've worked on that hasn't been produced, NOT because of whatever's listed on IMDB.

If you ever wonder why certain writers continually get work despite being associated with duds and tragedies, it's because they've likely also done a dozen specs or rewrites that are great and everyone loves -- they just have never been made. The cream doesn't always rise to the top in Hollywood, and just because something is creative or original or well-written doesn't mean it will ever get made. You could build a house with unproduced "brilliant" scripts.

Undecided.
I'm leaning towards a positive because it's Bryan Singer and the man has skill, so I'd be interested to see him try something a little different.

I'm leaning towards the negative because Superman Returns proved that regardless of how skilled your director is, some comic properties just aren't really worth doing now. I guess Man of Steel has been shitcanned then?

Treat us to another thriller, Bryan.

Really Singer? Who?
I realize trying to capitalize on whatever superhero they can get their hands on because of the huge "Knight" opening, but c'mon! Like others have said what the hell, and who the hell are these so called Superhero's? What a waste. Here's hoping he'll do another "Usual Suspects" & not another "Superman Returns!" Like others have said what the hell, and who the hell are these so called Superhero's? What a waste. Here's hoping he'll do another "Usual Suspects" & not another "Superman Returns!" The best thing he is a part of now (This coming from a huge WWII buff but am not discouraged about the upcoming plot to kill Hitler movie "Valkryie. Since when does a studio move back a release date because it's TOO GOOD? Yeah I can't think of one either. Please give me an example though because I really hope it's good because it's a great True story about what could have ended the Third Reich a year earlier than it did!) is being exec. producer of the excellent TV show w/the brilliant Hugh Laurie on "House." Here's hoping it's good, bet it's not, but he could always have another "Usual Suspects?" Right?... well here's hoping.

Umm...
Hot scribes? Since when? I've never even heard of these guys. They've done practically nothing, none of which has been acclaimed.

This makes me want to dropkick DC. We don't want this. We want Wonder Woman, the Flash, the Green Lantern, and Supermax. I'd rather see a more well-known hero adapted.

I'm sorta interested in Millar's Superman. I thought Superman Returns was unfulfilling. But it would be a risky decision after the Incredible Hulk...

That raygun toting midget is Cannonball isn't it?

The premise doesn't sound totally horrible, I'm all for original ideas as long as they don't suck. They'd have a helluva time making a movie look as bad as his artwork so I'm not writing this off just yet.

Why they wouldn't go with an already established franchise is beyond me. Why not pull something out of the...

How does he keep working?
I never knew he was that bad at anatomy until I saw that Capt A. The story could work well if its not gonna be made into a campy or kid marketed type movie.

As for comic artists, John Romita Jr is now second worst one still getting work.
