Skip your injection & check out this new trailer for Jeff Bridges' The Giver

Jun. 5, 2014by: Jesse Giroux

A second trailer for Phillip Noyce's (PATRIOT GAMES, SALT) THE GIVER has been released, and it's the best look yet at the upcoming adaptation of Lois Lowry's YA novel. I should warn you though, if you're a fan of the book, you might not like a few of the things revealed in the latest trailer. It looks like the filmmakers have deviated quite a bit from the source material, which is a shame because the book is fantastic.

However there are a few things from the novel featured in the new trailer, including Brenton Thwaites' Jonas experiencing color for the first time, and Jeff Bridges' The Giver talking about how things aren't exactly as they seem in their "perfect" little world.

"There is no way for me to prepare you for the truth."

THE GIVER will likely be a little different compared to the book, but that's how it is for many adaptations, and I'm still very interested in checking it out.

THE GIVER will be in theaters on August 15, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: How many of you have read the book? It was required reading when I was in elementary school.

Read the book and feel pretty disappointed with the approach they are taking for this film. It's definitely received a strong influence from Hunger Games and more recently, Divergent.

Yeah I have seen this movie, its called equilibrium and this is a pretty blatant ripoff of the story from that movie with a few small things added, but a theft none the less and bc of that no interest from me.

You know what's funny? You are implying that Equilibrium was an original idea, which really is laughable. Kurt Wimmer stole many elements from other science-fiction projects. The whole premise is basically the setup for all sci-fi: a perfect utopia, or new technology, is not what it seems, and someone within the system must fight against it. If you didn't come out of Equilibrium thinking you'd seen that movie before, than you must be new to the genre. That movie is severely

And while this movie strays from the source material, the premise of the book was released in 1993, 10 years before Equilibrium. So, if anything, Kurt Wimmer stole ideas from Lois Lowry, but even that is wrong, because Lowry didn't invent the concept of a dystopian society. Welcome to the cliched world of sci-fi.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed in what I've seen so far. Even as a space cadet of a kid in school I was still able to realize what a great book it is. The first time I saw a trailer was before Godzilla I think, and I had absolutely no idea what movie it was until the end title. I literally still have no idea what is even close to the book here.

I hope it's a good movie, but I definitely was looking for a close adaptation from the book
