It looks like those loveable little blue people with the white trousers and the funny white hats will be coming to us in the full, bombastic glory of 3D with, Columbia Pictures’ planned CG/live-action hybrid film based on the characters first introduced to us by Belgian cartoonist Pierre “Peyo” Culliford in 1958. The Smurfs were then introduced to younger generation when Hanna-Barbera turned the comic strip into a hit Saturday morning cartoon in the eighties. Now Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the rest of the gang are set to re-emerge with the planned Colin Brady-directed film, set for a December 17, 2010 release. On a personal note, I once owned a Smurfette doll that I slept with every night until my parents confiscated her permanently and accused me of commiting lewd acts. Our relationship has never been the same.
