Smurfs poster

Sep. 1, 2009by:

Besides an obviously inappropriate crush on Smurfette and an obsession with the ColecoVision video game, I had little to no interest in the Smurf franchise as a kid. If I was gonna roll with some odd little forest creatures in a fantastical universe, I was rolling with the Gummi Bears. And I'm not even sure that today's generation of kids are even all that aware of who or what a Smurf is. But that's all about to change as next year Sony is releasing the animated film THE SMURFS in 3D. I'm sure a teaser trailer of some sort will be attached to CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS (the next film from Sony Pictures Animation) in a few weeks but for now we get a look at the teaser poster. It first ran in a magazine and was scanned by Smurf fansite (ahem...) PVC Blue. Check it out below...

Extra Tidbit: Smurfette was originally created by Gargamel as an evil Smurf. When she turned good her hair went from black to blonde.

I would only see this film if they cast scarlett jo as smurfette. (Is that a bit wierd?)

Holiday!

Calm down Bill O'Reillys, "Holiday" encompasses the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and it's what every studio says when they don't have a set release date for a movie that's coming out at the end of the year.

Smurf You Too

Get over the whole Holiday 2010 thing. The country is secular and if you want to market to a larger audience it's best not to isolate your marketing to just one group. Hmmm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the reason that Gargamel wanted to capture the Smurfs was so that he could eat them? If he was able to create Smurfette, doesn't it stand to reason that he could just create a bunch of them rather than bother with all the work of capturing them?

He wanted to make them into gold. The cat wanted to eat them. I think there was one though where he heard they give you immortal life if you eat them. As for everything else, I don't know that much about cartoon alchemy, but I'm sure there's some reason he didn't try that. The Smurfs was pretty scientifically sound for its time.

Great marketing geniuses. Way to be politically correct. Simply putting December 25th 2010 is not PC enough. Great tag line too. Good thing they didn't resuse an overused line from a popular movie.

I really don't care I actually prefer it as Holiday 2010 because not everyone's Christian and guess what there are other holidays besides Christmas that occur in December - note that this is a movie poster not just for the US but probably for the world. Honestly people get too big a hang up over such small thing..the country is secular, deal with it!

My point was that it should say December 25th not holiday or christmas. I'm an atheist so technically there is no holiday for me in December. So if they want to be PC about it then just put the release date on it.

Holiday 09 is total bullshit! It should be Christmas 09! 95% of of all businesses in the U.S. close on Christmas Day. They close their doors and give everyone that day off because it's Christmas. My point is everyone recognizes that December 25th is Christmas (and that the holidays surrounding that date are Christmas holidays). I was gonna avoid this movie anyway, but now I have multiple reasons to not see it.

Yup, also have to chime in about the "Holiday" bullshit. Every Decemeber, it always wants to make me strangle anyone who insists it's a "Holiday tree" and not a Christmas tree.

So MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and fuck "Happy Holidays".

It would have been better if they would have included Donnie Darko's monologue on how illogical it is to be a smurf. Haha.

They better release a new cartoon or rerelease the old one to get the kids started on what they are. I'm sure they think all of us that watched the smurfs as kids now have kids so we'll naturally take our kids to the movies to see it.

Right on KenMasters! I work for a very large company (who gets a lot of press here) and our management is not allowed to wish anyone a Merry Christmas. It's actually a company policy!
As to this news? I'm holding out for Smurfs 2: Meet the Snorks

Seriously when anything uses that famous line out of Scarface, it immediately removes my interested in seeing it. Same thing with that Shorts movie, trailer was funny but once he say "say hello to my little friend", I give out a long winded sigh and shake my head.
