Soderbergh & Falcone

Nov. 4, 2008by: Omar Aviles

Steven Soderbergh CHE scribe Peter Buchman will be re-teaming with Steven Soderbergh for yet another biopic titled MAKING JACK FALCONE. Buchman will write the script and Soderbergh will executive produce the story of Joaquin "Jack" Garcia, a Cuban-American FBI agent who successfully infiltrated the Gambino crime family under the pseudonym Jack Falcone and was on the brink of becoming a "made man" when the FBI decided they had enough evidence to starting arresting and convicting. Garcia was able to navigate several different identities among several different ethnicities so this should provide some good material for an actor looking for an Oscar nod. No word yet on when the film will get underway but since Soderbergh's plate is usually pretty full, it may not be for a while. The first in Soderbergh's two-part biopic of Ernest "Che" Guevara, GUERILLA, will be released January 9th of next year.

Extra Tidbit: Garcia's efforts led to the arrest and conviction of Greg DePalma, the Gambino family capo, along with several other high-ranking men within the family.

60 Minutes

It was 60 Minutes Housecoat man. But I saw the piece as well, and was blown away how amazing a story it really was.

I want to pick up the book Garcia wrote about his experiences as well, Making Jack Falcone.

In the article it says Soderbergh will exec produce... it never says anything about him directing, so who is?

As for the record, I don't really care whether Traffic was relasitic or not, it was well made and is an awesome movie. A certain level of realism is nice, but this is a hollywood movie of course they're going to embelish the facts*, if I want the truth I'll watch a documentary.

*Just like Requiem for a Dream isn't a realistic portrayal of drug culture (it really isn't, but I

*Just like Requiem for a Dream isn't a realistic portrayal of drug culture (it really isn't, but I don't hold that against it) and yet many people still enjoy it for what it is, a well-made piece of art.

amazing

I saw the special they did about this story on dateline(?) a few weeks ago. Incredible! Me and my bro were like, "this needs to be a movie!" I have faith soderbergh can do it although the material definitely screams Michael Mann or Scorsese's treatment.

Wow.

Coming from someone named Hunglowman, that is hilarious. A lot of experience with the streets? HAHA, sure.

as someone with a little (a lot) of experience with the streets... and as a movie fan... and as someone who has seen Out Of Sight and Traffic... let me officially say this:

SODERBERGH SHOULD STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM CRIME STORIES.

stick to the Oceans movie, Soda, your crime shit is about as realistic as unicorns
