Solomon Kane director Michael J. Bassett to write and helm Silent Hill 2

11.04.2010

It had been said that Lionsgate was going to be shopping around the sequel to 2006's adaptation of the survival horror video game SILENT HILL this week at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. Now, we're hearing that the flick has finally secured itself a writer-director as well as a title.

The sequel, to be called SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS, will be written and directed by Michael J. Bassett (SOLOMON KANE) and will reportedly be shot in 3D. Here's Bloody Disgusting with a breakdown of the film's plot:

The sequel follows heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run - always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't full understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

The first film was brought to us by writer Roger Avary (BEOWULF) and director Christopher Gans (BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF), and starred Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean. Avary, who was to originally write the sequel, appears to no longer be involved. No word on what cast members, if any, will be returning.

Yeah, I am quite glad with this news. I haven't seen Solomon Kane, but Deathwatch is one of my favorite horror films. It instills faith in me that he is capable of turning out a sequel for the great first film. I just hope the passion for the series is there, because that's partly what made the first film as good as it was. I don't want to see this turn into some phone-in project for a quick buck.

And favorite game? Easy. Silent Hill 2. The story is absolutely amazing and it remains one of

I enjoyed the first Silent Hill movie until it reached the third act where it felt rushed. If it was 2 and a half hours long or even 3 hours long it would've been better. I hope this movie is good and doesn't feel rushed also.

Extra Tidbit: Silent Hill 2. Room 312. Nuff said.

Purest Silent Hill is on PlayStation

Because then you'll know why Pyramid Head exists, for one. In the film, the director decided Pyramid Head should be there because he looks cool. But PH has a specific reason to be in SH2, so being in the movie made no sense at all. They should have made the first movie based on the first game. It had a spectacular atmosphere, and is still probably the scariest game I have ever played.

The first Silent Hill film is my favorite horror film ever and I've been waiting ages for news on this sequel. I'm glad to see it's finally getting greenlit and the story sounds interesting. Can't wait!

After I saw Silent Hill in the theaters, I talked about it for months with my friend. I really liked the visuals and the weird chilling horror it had going on. While this is good news and I've been waiting for a sequel for years, I'm a little disappointed the same characters won't be around. I haven't played the games, but reading you guys' comments, sounds like this one should be just as good.

I'm stoked for this. The first movie was enjoyable, and did a great job capturing that creepy ambiance the games have. The 3rd game had an awesome story, and I'm glad that one is being made into a movie. the 2nd was good, but just depressing altogether and I don't think would score well with a bigger audience.

Awesome

I am actually excited to see another Silent Hill movie. I liked the first one (Didnt think it was the best due to a couple flaws in it but i liked it none the less). I have been a huge fan of the series since the first game and am even more excited they are focusing on Heather and her father due to Silent Hill 3 being my favorite of all them. I hope they have the "You're not here" song by Akira Yamaoka in the credits again :P. Being in 3D does confirm that it will have a theatrical release but

Y'know....

I'll just go ahead and say it...I dug the first movie...up until the ridiculous ending. The movie was, for the most part, faithful to the games, as it didn't stray too far from the source material. Plus, it had Sean Bean. I'll be down for a second if it keeps up with or surpasses the first movie.
