Some-body once told me...Shrek 5 is being written by Austin Powers writer

10.17.2016

I know it's cool to shit on the SHREK films - and it definitely devolved as the series progressed - but I still have a soft spot for the first two films. I don't know if it's nostalgia (I was young when those ones came out), or if they're actually legitimately good, but I definitely have fond memories. From the interrogation of the Gingerbread Man, to the skewering of Disney-like fairy tales (like Geppetto selling Pinocchio for money), to the edgier humor ("Think he's compensating for something"), to the use of cuss words (which blew kid Damion's mind), I thought it was a fun ride. Even the sequel had a great hook (meeting the in-laws) and a nice coda to the first film (Princess Fiona chooses to stay an Ogre, which in the first one was still part of the curse). So while the third one isn't great (besides a nice D&D reference) and the fourth one is a garbage fire, I won't count SHREK 5 out yet.

And apparaently Michael McCullers, who co-wrote the AUSTIN POWERS sequels with Mike Myers, is being courted to write the screenplay after a pitch of his impressed the studio. Besides AUSTIN POWERS, McCullers is an SNL staff-writer alumni, and also wrote the script for the suprisingly decent PEABODY AND SHERMAN adaptation. That's not an outstanding resume in my opinion (I liked the AUSTIN POWERS sequels, but not sure they were better than the first, and while decent, PEABODY AND SHERMAN also wasn't great), but I'm willing to give him - and the film - a chance. If only to redeem the fourth one at the very least.

Now don't get me wrong - I'd rather them leave well-enough alone. I'm not clamouring for a new SHREK movie or anything. But I like to keep an open mind, and who knows? Maybe it'll be great. Or it'll be shit and we can just ignore it. I mean, that is an option.

So what're are your guys's opinions on SHREK? And you looking forward to yet another sequel?

Extra Tidbit: Chris Farley was originally cast as Shrek, and even recorded ninety-percent of his dialogue before his death.

Why???? The first two were great. Shrek the Third was awful and Forever After was forgettable. Enough with ths franchise already!

Never really got into Shrek.

I saw the first movie and for some reason the fourth in a theater as well. The movies aren't that funny. It's all fart jokes and rejected Love Guru dialogue. There was no reason other than $$$ to make 4 of these films, they were the same thing over and over.

it's cool to shit on the SHREK films??

Really?? I dunno if that was supposed to be a joke but I think the box office numbers beg to differ and besides its Shrek that started the whole anti-fairtale schtick so I think "the hate" you're talking about is mistaken or misplaced.

Shrek is awesome, do we need a fifth movie? Depends on how good the plot will be.

Shrek is awesome? We get it, you're a millennial who grew up on Shrek. But go back and watch those movies. They aren't great and are nothing but fart jokes.

I'd rather see a new Austin Powers film, or a stand alone Dr. Evil film. A completely new film from Mike Myers would be welcome too, but if it's good I'll watch it. I'd like to see Mike in more films again!

I would like another AP movie but after recent sequels that were made too late (anchorman 2, 2lander, dumb and dumber to) I think its best to let sleeping dogs lie. People just don't learn, video game movies suck (talking about AC) and delayed sequels suck too

In before 'Shrek is love, Shrek is life'.

Also, whatever keeps Eddie Murphy working is fine by me.

The 2nd one is one of my favorites, and I love the 1st one (less) too. I enjoyed the 3rd one, but I could tell that they would keep cashing in. The 4th one was advertised as the final chapter... something that isn't needed in movie series not based on books. Specially the SHREK series, where each movie had enough closure at the end. Anyway, I thought the 4th one was average, but at least... Well, I can't even say the positive aspects of it being the final chapter since now I find out it wasn't.

I don't see why they're bothering with a 5th one. It's been too many years, so it won't gross as much money as the others. Oh, I almost forgot: I hated PUSS IN BOOTS' spin-off.

Not that AUSTIN POWERS 4 is needed either, but I'd rather watch that instead. Speaking of, Eddie Murphy has already had a couple of comebacks (and ruined them), so why hasn't Mike Myers had one yet (INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and SUPERMENSCH don't count)?

Shrek 1 was a great movie. Shrek 2 proved a sequel can be even better than the first (yeah, one of the very rare times like Toy Story 2) After that they kinda went downhill. So, I dub the new movie Shrek: Trainshreked.

Seen them all 100's of times

Shrek 2 is a classic and will always be my favorite. All of them have some great scenes and some clever lines. Eddie Murphy's Donkey is just the perfect side kick. I'll take 5 more as long as Eddie and Mike are still part of the crew.

The first Shrek is a classic and so was the 2nd. The third was awful and I didn't see the 4th. I think this dead horse has been beaten enough though.
