Sony announces The Amazing Spider-man 3 and 4 are coming in 2016 and 2018

06.17.2013by:

It looks like the multiple villains appearing in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 are going to be a part of a larger scale vision for the franchise as Sony has officially announced two more sequels are coming on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018. Whether or not these sequels will be directed by Marc Webb is unknown at this time, but it does show the filmmakers are intent on telling a cohesive story across multiple films.

With THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 still filming in New York, more and more set photos have unveiled looks at the various villains populating the sequel with the potential formation of The Sinister Six for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. Unlike other sequels loaded with bad guys, as long as there is a vision for where they want to go, I am okay with it. Sony Pictures chairman Jeff Blake had this to say about the franchise:

“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

I liked THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and have faith that with the revamped origin story out of the way that the second film can be much better. I will always have a soft spot for the Sam Raimi films (excluding SPIDER-MAN 3) but I feel that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have much better chemistry on screen than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst did.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 starring Garfield, Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Shailene Woodley, Colm Feore, and Martin Sheen opens May 2, 2014.

I don't like it when they announce this before the first sequel comes out.

This is one of those psychological things. When a movie studio makes a successful movie, and they announce that a sequel is in the works, okay... that's fine. In fact, I loved The Amazing Spider-Man so much that I would welcome many more movies from it. But when the studio announces two more sequels so far into the future, and the second movie is still a year? away from release... there's something really frustrating about that.

I can't really explain it, but it really irks me when

I can't really explain it, but it really irks me when studios do that. If the writer says it, that's one thing. You have a feeling they have written a story that bears more movies, and I at least trust them a lot. When a movie studio does it, though, it feels like a moneygrab. I know all of Hollywood is a moneygrab, but when they make it painfully obvious... that's when it becomes annoying.

Excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (despite the idea of like 5 villains being in it... that's worrying, for sure), though!

They must have a story in mind, or they're just securing those dates.

It would be pretty epic at the end if Peter dies fighting off the Sinister Six while protecting Aunt May/MJ like in the Ultimate Spidey books. Then like in the books, the Avengers will show up and rock their shit.

I like this news

While I think we all saw a sinister six movie coming, a 4th movie could be Venom, I cant stress enough how much I want to see this character done right after the crapfest that was Spiderman 3

Translation:

"We have to keep making these movies to avoid losing the rights back to Marvel."

Well, if Sony/Columbia are gonna continue making Spider-Man films...just take your time & get 'em right is all this fanboy asks.

I also think the 2018 release in May is a big fuck you to Marvel who would have likely put The Avengers 3 in that slot.

Are they able to take their time? I thought the min one movie is done the clock starts ticking. But you have to wonder, at what point do Fans start getting tired of these movies, or when do you start recreating the same movies over and over again before the fans get tired, and it no longer becomes a financial success? I think at that point they will just give the rights back to Marvel. Hopefully the comic craze isnt dead by that time.

Marvel should counter with a live-action Spidey TV series

This is just Sony totally rubbing it in Marvel's face that they'll never get the character back. But Marvel does own the TV rights to the character. Besides, along with Daredevil, Spidey would lend himself to TV quite well I think. Just doing some armchair studio boss thinking here on how I'd try to get around not having the movie rights.

It doesn't work like that. Marvel can continue to make animated Spiderman cartoons but they can't produce a live action Spiderman. Marvel got into trouble from Fox when they did the X-Factor TV series that Fox said was too much like a live action X-Men series.

If thats true, that would be an awesome way to introduce Spidey to the Marvel Verse, granted hell never be in the movies, but if you could have him show up in SHIELD that would be awesome and would make the Shield a sure HIT.

Fuck

Every sliver of news from this wretched franchise kills any sliver of hope Spidey will ever be back with Marvel. And it breaks my heart.

Yeah...and an indoor cat lives longer!?

I can only imagine how cool it would have been to have spidey in the Avengers. Some things we will just never get to see. Then again never say never. I mean seriously...these movies are not remakes in my opinion. You can easily tack these on as sequels to the original 3. When I saw the amazing spidey in the theater I was like " ok that just felt like a Spider-Man 4 to me".

Of course Spider-Man is important to you, Sony, because he brings you truckloads of cash.

By the time they comes out, Garfield could almost be Parker`s father.. The guy is way too old to play Peter, and it's painfully obvious.. They could have at least cast a good young actor who can play and look the part..

WOW, so this reboot gets to make it to 4 sequels but Raimi's didn't? Seems to be a bit of overkill with all these comic book movies. NIce to know HOllywod will NEVER learn.

If they are making all of these sequels for the Sinister Six storyline, I am all for it. There was no way they could have properly told the story and have developed the characters correctly in two films.

Excited for the sequel, even though I thought Amazing Spider Man could have been much better.

Not sure about this right now, I would like them to at least make a solid third film before even thinking about a fourth.

"Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise--"

Yeah, that's why you rebooted it and started from scratch, essentially giving the finger to the first three movies. And I'm sure you'll eventually give the finger to these "amazing" Spidey movies, too.

ASM 3 and 4? I doubt that very much. It'll be time for another origin tale by then.

Agree with The_Soloist on this, I'm okay with this if it's a Sinister Six storyline they're going with.

I agree with you on the chemistry. And yes, there's a soft spot somewhere for the Raimi films... Even Spiderman 3. There were some good parts in it.
