Sony catches Machete

09.22.2009

They call him Machete for a reason...

If there was still any residual doubt at all that the badass-sounding MACHETE feature film is happening for real, here's a something to celebrate. Or maybe despair, depends on how you see it...

Sony and Hyde Park Entertainment announced yesterday the studio's acquisition for most of international distribution rights to Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Trejo-on-a-tear flick.

Good news is that the movie getting a big studio push means it won't be lost in development heck nor go straight to the shelves. Bad news is that the movie getting a big studio push might end up meaning *gulp* PG-13. I doubt very much Rob would let that happen, but when considering how Fox de-clawed Wolverine this summer...

Extra Tidbit: I thought Trejo was useless in HEAT when first watching the film, until that final scene of his - amazing. Been a fan ever since.

There's no way

this will be a PG-13. In the UK it will be an 18 for sure, simply for the fact it will glorify the use of knives.

I don't see how this could get construed as a sign for PG-13. I think even studios know the most ardent fans saw the trailer, with two naked ladies and shotgun blasts galore. I think names like De Niro and Alba are the draw here (most of the other actors have their share of disreputable work). And this ain't no comic book you take your 8-year-old to see.

Slow news day...

You're jumping from one thing to another here. Just because it was acquired by a major studio doesn't mean the content will change. Further than that, there's no way in hell a movie starring De Niro directed by Robert Rodriguez would ever be sent directly to video.

This will never be PG 13 in a million years. Rodriguez won't stand for anything other than R or NC-17.

PG-13? Won't happen.

Rodriguez does not compromise his movies in that way. I read once he gets final cut on all his projects.

I really hope not..

It would lose the whole graphic and exploitive feel that the trailer had. Without that, it just wouldn't be Machete...

I am glad it is being picked up, and highly doubt they will push for a PG-13, especially because overseas, it is not as big of a deal. They more relaxed.

I pray they don't make it another piece of PG-13 crap! How can a machete wielding bad-ass be family friendly anyway?

Dude, I'm still in shock that this film was even made, but now it's getting support from a major studio? I'm not particularly stoked about this one, but its given me a lot of hope that one day I'll get to pay my $10.50 to see Eli Roth's "Thanksgiving".

There would be no point to Machete if it was PG-13. Other than that, it looks like it could be entertaining, even if pointless ...

Seriously...

Would this even work as a film? The trailor is funny because it's a 3 minute joke, is it gonna have the same effect stretched out over a whole film?

bad form

This film seems pointless.Trejo is good as a villain or traitor. Nothing else. He did make a big impact in Heat and Con Air.

Machete will be rated R for sure it's part of grindhouse sony prob aquired the rights because planet terror and death proof was deemed a bomb. atleast that's my opinion.
